Yeah as if that isn't a easier proposition in this era where there's a multitude of trinkets at every weight class separated by just a few pounds.

Loma is no Henry Armstrong or Mickey Walker, that's for sure. Hell, he's no Ruben Olivares.

He "dared" to be great and failed and his best win is ironically over a smaller man daring to move up against him.

    Fair enough.

But don't mischaracterize my honest and demonstrably true observations---physical considerations have absolutely affected Loma's effectiveness at 135 and not many former featherweights have gone on to be dominant lightweights--- as excuses. I've been watching the game for a long time, and I have a very clear understanding of what he is and what he is not.

    Cheers.

Why did I say this. Loma would beat Ryan. I still can't believe Ryan beat Haney. Just a weird loss. Garcia ****ing sucks. Must just be an extreme case of styles make fights.

Everybody makes bad calls: you might still be able to find my posts where I was morally outraged about Oscar fighting lil' ol' Pacman...

Loma easily beat Haney but you know the drill with the paid off judges. Against Lopez it was closer but I think Loma edged it, even with Loma's dodgy shoulder. If Loma had started earlier he would have won comfortably.

I personally believe he beat Haney but my best guess is he spent too long getting a read on Lopez and only really kicked into gear after giving away a few rounds

And for Haney though as mentioned I think he won he didn’t finish super strong in many peoples eyes.

Haney fight was close, far from a robbery. He kinda threw the last round or two away in a close fight... His timing of when to come on and when to take a break in a fight is historically bad for as talented as he was..

Lopez fought a good fight and out boxed him for large portions of the fight a cleaner victory than Haneys - and the size difference contributed to both losses, but as @Russell stated, greater fighters have prevailed in more lop sided matches.

Calling him overrated is a pure casual take

I think there’s just a little bit of Loma being overrated. Not greatly, he’s obviously a modern great. But he is the first fighter I think of when people use the mythical “eye test” to rate a fighter. Loma looked better than everyone, but results are the only thing that matter.

Loma looks like he should have beaten Haney, and especially Lopez easily. But all boxers have flaws and unfortunately Loma was found to be “merely” a good level champion rather than a legendary one.

Mind you, there’s no shame in any of that.

He was a tad overrated mate. A great fighter for sure but not an all-timer based on his record.

I agree with what you are saying though given there are people who swing the other way and refuse to acknowledge the guy’s standing in the sport.

The Haney fight was simply not a robbery, "starting too late" is an interesting work around to admitting that Teo beat him.. I guess he just planned to lose most the rounds yet win some how?

The dude could have dominated 126/130

Dude went to 135 and was still dominating people

he got robbed in the biggest fight of his life for all 4 belts vs Haney

he’s going down as an atg
