Am I wrong in remembering that RJJ favored a slow pace like around 60 punches a round?

That wouldn't work with golovkin, way less with a version significantly younger than in the first canelo fight. I haven't seen a lot from him from that time, but from the few clips I saw he looked really quick. Going forward with that quickness and chin it would get very unpleasant for RJJ. On the other hand RJJ was apparently fit enough to play a basketball match and then have a boxing match, however against lesser opposition.

The drugs are an asterisk to RJJs prime, but how could anyone factor that in? We have only seen him the way he was and if we want to compare at all, we can only go from that version.

Chin is also hard to tell, really. He was coming down from heavy when getting knocked out, wasn't he? Seems kind of wrong to assume it would have been the same when he was 5 years younger and in better condition. Also he obviously took some shots and didn't fall over earlier. I can't imagine RJJ in the Amir khan category...

Lastly with the age comparisons I thought that it is a relatively new thing, especially below heavyweight, that fighters last to higher ages. Obviously there are exceptions like foreman and archie moore, but people like beterbiev, usyk, bivol etc looking as young as they do - probably comes down to advancements in sports medicine I guess? Testosterone or whatever...

Roy only had a weak chin when he started cutting lots of weight, plus he was never knocked out at 160. Also Golovkins power is nowhere near as good as people out to be, fighters like Jacobs went the distance with him, Kell Brook who was moving up two weight classes took bombs but never went down.

Jones is the greatest h2h fighter at 160/168 in history, what exactly is GGG gonna do who got outboxed by Daniel Jacobs and Canelo Alvarez? Show me one clip of Jones Jr. at 160/168 with any sort of problems, he was perhaps the perfect Middleweight in history with no weaknsess. He beats GGG any way he wants, that slow jab isn't going to land, GGG has absolutely no head movement whatsoever, he's gonna get beat up badly and stopped.

Jacobs withstood the power of G and almost drew with him on top of it.

I dont see why a prime Roy wouldnt also be able to take that power.

I have to admit its a bit surprising how many people pick Golovkin to actually beat Jones.

We are talking about a guy who at 160 barely seperated himself in level from Danny Jacobs and Canelo. And even though he nudged out wins there, that was his general level. Its not like he was on a completely different level to them, he was slightly better and edged out very competitive fights. And plenty of people had him losing to Canelo legitimately in the rematch.

He would be in over his head against Roy.

Did Jones Jr ever faced any power punchers like GGG at 160? I ask at 160 because that was where GGG spent the majority of his career.

 still in denial after all these years. Roy Jones was a Glass Jawed Fighter. He had no Chin. None.

Imagine Golovkin landing this on 'prime' RJJ glass jaw

Jones would have to hire all the king's horses and all the king's men to put it back together again.

Imagine Golovkin on the same horse steroids Jones was. He'd have been vapourising people.

GGG isn't a southpaw and he isn't a career Light Heavyweight. He's slow, always leads off of his orthodox jab and has absolutely no head movement.

Back to reality and we see an actual glass chinned fighter in Jacobs taking flush punches from GGG, easily slipping them after getting his timing down, then proceeds to land flush, hard left hooks on GGG's jaw before the round ends. If that were Jones landing those left hooks, it would be over for GGG. Would look something like this...

RJJ had the power to stop light heavies. Are people seriously picking Golovkin here? Really? Even though GGG beat Canelo, Canelo had enough pop to make GGG fight a relatively cautious fight. RJJ hit way harder and faster than Canelo.

Can't really argue with this except to speculate about the system in which he came up... which is pretty murky.

I mean, everybody gets to have their opinion so ok, but relative to the central question of the thread, I just don't see that it matters much.

What is your position on...Canelo? Pac and JMM? Mosely and Margarito and the bricks?

I've been watching GGG fight pretty much since he won his WBA interim belt from some guy named Milton Nunez who was ranked number 13 by the WBA at the time. I'm not sure how posting a highlight video proves anything, seems absurd to even think about. I've legit seen GGG get punched square in the face numerous times in all of his high profile bouts, he got the dog **** beaten out of him by Sir Gay Dervychenko for instance. I can post a highlight reel of Antonio Margarito and claim he was a defensive genius, what exactly does that prove?

The 2nd video only proves my point, Jacobs survived that knockdown and then proceeds to land bombs on GGG's face throughout the entire fight. If if wasn't for that knockout then Jacobs would of won, if Jones landed that many punches on GGG it would of been over.

The absurdity of claiming GGG's speed would be very unpleasant vs RJJ who was arguably the fastest fighter of all time. Like I said this thread is embarrassing. You should be asking would GGG take Jones power. Who was the biggest puncher GGG ever faced again? Canelo?

A prime Jones at 160 could afford to eat maybe a flush Golovkin power shot here and there, but he certainly would not want to get immobilized on the ropes and take any kind of sustained barrage, that's for sure.
