I loved his book and most of his posts. But dude could get rather unhinged at times.

What can be said of him is that he provides the goods that reflect his dedication, craft and thoroughness, which are on another level.

    Great contribution above.

Such a minuscule gesture, and years too late.

    Garbage person.

Good Lord, some of the footage is sparkling clean. The McVea-Johnson clip. And the beating Tunney was putting on Carpentier was unmerciful.

Has some of this material been cleaned up digitally or are his sources just that good?

Klompton had dig at myself in regards to the old CBZ forum shutting where I tried to get more traction for Steve Gordon (Gordoom) RIP. He had a point as I tried to get a lot of threads going but didn't necessarliy comment and was acussed of working like a bot which was fair. I stopped and informed Gordoom as some people complained and I think it was the final straw, he was burnt out. It's a pity it didn't stay up as an archive and although still around is basically defunct from being updated. I don't hold a grudge, maybe Klompton did/does in this regard, who knows but i accept he was right.

It was the first forum i had been on after lurking for a while so didn't really know the ins and outs, being a middle age man who didn't use the net for online communication but as resource. I still prefer to view information rather than communicating, don't use social media.

I agree that he is very knowledgable but could be acerbic but after many moons I asked about some issues with Paxton's Greb book, he did point out a few mistakes but also did not trash it either. I suppose it's the nature of the beast communicating with strangers on the net, some will be accomodating and other will be confontational.

Anyway, i look forward to viewing the footage and leave with a link to a audio interview he did about Greb and Klompton comes across as a pleasant and knowledgable person to my ears.

some looks cleaned up, it would have to have been... unless purchased original copies from groups or persons or organisations that have had such material cared for from the get go... some of it looks cleaned up, but perfectly.

Yes he is not a reasonable person, No other sources or research or documentation is readily accepted by him... he is not alone in this either.

Was thinking the same. There was footage if Fitz that was remarkably clean, by far the best I've seen of him.

I think that will do now on Steve Compton the human being, who continues to post here and is pretty well behaved these days.

Feel free to discuss his footage etc., but keep off calling him an ******* or calling for him to be unbanned etc.

Even in the few seconds of film we have of Fitz here he looks pretty good, throws a quick nasty overhand against Corbett and quickly rolls with hatches thinks would be a right hand counter

Athletes were just as good back then as they are today. They were fighting for their supper.

This "modern is automatically better than past" argument is no good. Football and basketball are relatively new, yes.. but boxing is the oldest game in the world. Older than Marquis of Queensbary style even.

Agreed on the book Seamus, it's a cracking piece of work. I've picked up some interesting info on here over the years in bits from him as well that has opened my eyes on occasion, especially pre 1920 where my knowledge has a few gaps compared to the second half of the century.

I heartfully agree but i don't see the correlation between your response and my post
