It's bizarre how Conor isn't wanting to fight Lewis Crocker, who's also a weak champ and with Matchroom so an easy fight to make. “I’m not really interested. There’s bigger fish to fry in my opinion. Although he’s IBF, he not really a name that’s on my radar, for me, the 10lbs rehydration… I’d rather win the WBC. For me, that’s my main goal, or a big American name, and maybe come over here [Saudi Arabia] and fight the likes of Rollys, Garcia, Barrios…” "I want a big American name. That’s something that my dad done, that’s something I definitely want to do."
With Garcia signed to fight Barrios in February, I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to entice Pacquiao over here for Conor. Manny’s always been open to big-money opportunities, and that’s exactly the kind of name Hearn would chase if he wants stadium fights for Benn. It’ll almost certainly be some past champion rather than a live threat. I don’t even think Fast-Car would risk him with Catterall. As others have said, Kell Brook feels the most likely – they could do it at a catchweight and sell it as some sort of grudge match.
If he does fight at 147, my guess if they’ll drag someone like Barboza up from 140. Failing that someone like Jose Ramirez.
I'm not sure Hearn has the clout to lure a world champion, particularly a PBC champion to the uk. He can only do it with purse bids and he normally loses those. When was the last time a non attached world champion came to the uk for a voluntary defence.
Is there a Charles Martin in that division? So far Benn is largely following the AJ playbook... Build up against bin men (except Benn shoud have lost to one) Grudge match for PPV loot (Whyte / Eubank) Buy a world title (Martin) Take a risk and cash out (Wlad)
Yeah there's three >> Barrios, Crocker and Romero. All of those wouldn't usually be good enough to win a world title.
Yeah, same here — even with the discount it’s hard to justify when the content quality and stability have been so hit-or-miss. I’ll wait and see how the Queensberry lineup looks before committing again.
QP going to DAZN was a big disappointment for me. I'd enjoyed what Frank had done on BT and latterly TNT sport, was following his fighters and although the fare he served up there often had too much pudding, he retained a good eye for up and coming talent. With his shows I still felt engaged in UK boxing, whereas once they finished I just started to feel quite distanced from the sport. I'm not following QP over to DAZN though and thus putting money in Team Benn and the supporting cast of shysters who made a mockery of British boxing.
QP announced Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev and Javokhir Ummataliev, wonder where they will put them on shows
