Wasn't aware of this guy. Good find.

I wonder how he managed to get licensed? Maybe with the understanding that it would be a one & done thing in a thrown fight?

Thought Tony Ayala Jr. would have popped up by now. His was nearly 17 years.

John Michael Johnson had an 11 year break, then another 5 year hiatus after that...

Carlos Polomino didn’t fight after losing to Duran in 1979 until coming back in 1997 só near enough to 18 years.

Palomino actually didn’t do too bad with his comeback. He won 4 fights before losing to the decent Wilfred Rivera (still managing to last the distance over 10 rounds).

You can add the year between Carpenter and Tommy Gibbions as well, 4 years of his 7-year rein without a title fight.

Jake Paul will help break the record again, when he brings Sugar Ray Leonard out of retirement.

Two years. Carpentier was 1921 and Gibbons was 1923. He was inactive for over a year after winning the title though.

So for 5 years of his 7-year reign, he did not defend the title.

Sal 'Rocky' Cenicola had about 25 years between his final two fights. Seemed like such a nice guy. Used to listen to him as a regular guest commentating on Billy C Boxing podcast. He died a year or two back, RIP.
