Them's spatting words! Everyone loves a good spat.

I've enjoyed and have been impressed by almost all of Adam's works. I think he peaked with the Johnson books. The second Dempsey book seemed a bit tired, many repetitive and similar reports clogging up the works. But taken on the whole, his series represents the best I have read by any historian in decades, so much preferable to the fawning hero worshipping that was popular before. I will say that John Ochs Jack Hurley Trilogy might nip Adam work for work but Adam's overall contribution is hard to beat.

Sorry if I'm ignorant, but do you have some works out there we might consider in this discussion?

    Hi Mike
Perfectly understand,it takes a great effort to go out once you get to a certain age.The last fight i went to was Mikaela Mayer v Natasha Jonas nearly 2 years ago. These days havent got much money for boxing as it is very expensive if want a decent seat. Now i prefer a day at the races, trying to get to all the coarses in the UK.Added 4 to my list this year hoping to do a few more next year.Regarding the Boxing News, agree Gilbert Old was a great historian and it was remiss of me not to mention him.Harry Mullan was briliant as editor and must be turning in his grave that this beloved magazine is shortly to finish as a weekly publication.Always great to hear from you Mike and take care

    John McGloughlin

    Jerry Izenberg

Spring to my ( admittedly limited) mind.

The citing of Atlas is a joke. The man is a biased and petty know it all in my opinion.

    I voted for Pollack.

He really got into the guts of early gloved boxing history, in a way that nobody had done before, and gave us the missing evidence.

Atlas obviously has a schtick/persona, there's a decent chance he is in possession of some very rare literature and film Cus was holding onto, all of the film Cus had Tyson studying is definitely not on the internet

You think Cus gifted him a bunch of rare boxing films after kicking him out?

If he keeps up the pace he's been going at, our own @Ioakeim Tzortzakis will be the boxing Plato in no time.

I like, Izenberg and Kimball ,but they are authors rather than historians imo
Pollack's biographies have set a new bench mark imo .
I have a couple of Gilbert Odd's,they are okay but with some inaccuracies in them, then again he did not have access to the internet.
There is a self promoter on here who hasn't written anything, but sees himself as an authority over all others,no need to mention his name ,he enjoys giving it so much himself, and he has already given us his pearls of wisdom on this subject.
