Michael Moorer has turned pro in 1968 as a heavyweight. As a manager it's your job to control Moorer's career. In other words you've got to guide moorer and maximize profit and the end goal is to get to the title and reign as the champion. Obviously this will be very difficult to do in the 70s with some of the greatest legends boxing has known. But a high quality southpaw like Moorer gives you a lot to work with IMO.
Avoid fighters like Foreman, Frazier, Shavers, Lyle, any dangerous punchers as Moorer had a bit of a shaky chin at Heavyweight His best shot at picking up a belt is to fight Norton in 1978 or beating a faded Ali after 1975. Fighters I think Moorer would match up well against Ellis, Patterson, Quarry, Young.
I think I would learn very on by watching him spar with other heavyweights that his chin had limitations. With that in mind I would try to keep him away from the harder hitting up and comers in the early 70s like Mac Foster, Earnie Shavers and others. In the meantime I find a trainer to help shore up his defense a bit. When it came time to challenging for the title ( if I got him there ) there wouldn’t be as much room to be as choosy depending on who was champ at the time.
Same as the 90s. Avoid the big hitters until you get a shot at an ATG who doesn't hit as hard and for whom you are stylistically difficult. Get the win then cash your chips. The 70s version of Holyfield is Ali - each the greatest name in the division of the decade but both beatable. Shavers, Foster, Foreman, Lyle, Frazier are Bowe, Lewis, Tua, Tyson, Ruddock. Moorer doesn't have the endurance to get through them but he could find himself in the right place at the right time, albeit probably just the once.
Maybe he could change careers because his options as a heavyweight in the 1970's are NOT good! He could crack the top 10 with careful match making before he gets executed . I mean lets be real here, he was ko'ed as champ by a 46 year old man
The smart play would be to keep him at LHW. At some point HW will come calling but keep him at LHW having a dominant reign until 1979. Then when everyone else is out of the way go after Larry Holmes. If Moorer wins that hes got a few year window were he could reign at HW on the backend of his career. Then when the division starts to turn the corner in 1982,1983 have him vacate and go down to CW where hes got 3 or 4 more years until Holyfield.
70s have same day weigh in so I doubt Moorer would've been able to make 175lbs back then without severely crippling himself.
