Quite possibly. It's an awful division right now. The worst it's ever been.

I agree, Benavidez beats everyone in cruiserweight, including Opetaia.

Opetaia went life and death with Briedis in final rounds. Benavidez would probably punish him dearly for that.

There's only 3 good fighters at Cruiserweight right now - 1 Opetaia 2 Ramirez 3 Billam-Smith. Then a big drop off.

I'd probably make him favourite over everyone apart from Opetaia.

Not in this lifetime, he doesn’t.

Opetaia commits all sorts of atrocities on Benavidez.

Breidis is one of the most underrated fighters of the decade. Even pushing 40, he was a handful, and he was the only cruiserweight who didn't look completely out of his depth against Usyk. I'd argue that the Breidis win is a better P4P win than anything on David's resume.

Even the past prime Briedis of the first Opetaia fight (he was essentially shot the second time around) is/was better than Benavidez's best win.

Briedis was fast, heavy-handed, an excellent finisher, and he had solid whiskers.

CW, Like 147, 160, and 168, is a barren wasteland right now but there is a P4P elite skills fighters up there in Jai he would have to face if he wanted to call himself the best at the weight and an undisputed champion. Sure, Jai's opposition outside of Briedis has been weak but his skills, power, chin look elite and if Benavidez is an an avoided boogeyman at 168 and 175 then so too is Jai at CW

Benavidez has a much deeper resume than Jai but when you apply context he was a massive 168 beating up smaller or much smaller guys, is a massive 175 beating up on smaller or roughly same sized guys so you have to be fair and take that into account.

Zurdo and Benavidez, both of whom came up from 168, actually have the highest recorded fight night weights for LHWs I've ever heard of. Benavidez 196 and Zurdo reputedly as high as 204lbs which is insane albeit I think he was like 196 for some of his other announced weights

For context, Kovalev's heaviest fight night weight was 189 and he was usually around the mid 180s albeit as low as 181

    Bivol's 180-184

Beterbiev has never been near 196 and I'm not sure if he's even been 190 albeit very close to if not

Morrell weighed 190 vs Benavidez who was 196

Gvozdyk used to come at 183-186 pre-retirement but he muscled up and was 190 vs Benavidez who was 189 for their fight which was his debut at the weight

I could keep going on. Every other LHW fight night I'm aware of were most in the 180s or the low 190s, 192 or 193 being the max IIRC and those last 2 were very rare

Jai beating Squeo who was tiny for CW wasn't even a fair fight due to the huge size and weight disparity but other than that he's been fighting guys his size and big CWs

But a match up between Jai and Benavidez would be a huge breakout opportunity for Jai

I voted yes. The 2nd best fighter is probably Zurdo and he is in my opinion less skilled, and also the way he got totally dominated by Bivol doesn't give any confidence.

Benavidez will take out Ramirez next year and then there will only be Opetaia and Benavidez. Forget Billam-Smith and the rest. Levels.

Noel Gevor is a dark horse, he could be undefeated with different judges and was robbed against Briedis. He has the style to give Benavidez trouble. I imagine Benavidez getting the decision though because even if Gevor did enough in theory, he'd be a clear B-side.

I'm not even sure he gets by Masternak or Wlodarczyk. Cieslak and Glanton might wreck him. Zurdo outworks him. Pat Brown murderizes him.

Hard to say how he will go at cruiser because he looks fat at light heavyweight he could look obese at cruiser weight.

Wlodarczyk now or in his prime? I haven’t watched current Wlodarczyk, but I know he’s been fighting.
