    Who are some guys who infamously or famously quit in fights and still accomplished something after?

    I’ll start us off:

    Roberto Duran: Duh. He’s our No Mas poster boy. I think he later quit vs Pat Lawlor but had a legit and debilitating injury. In between he won junior middle and middleweight crowns.

    Willie Pep: In four fights with Sandy Saddler, he (in order) got overwhelmed and KTFO, boxed his way to brilliant decision, got in a bit of a roughhouse affair with Sandy and quit on his stool claiming a shoulder injury and, finally, got into an absolute foul fest (it wasn’t just Sandy being dirty) and quit claiming a cut was too painful to continue. Still had a long and viable career after.

    Sonny Liston: Quit on stool first time vs Ali (yeah yeah, shoulder injury but he threw left had over and over previous round with no visible issues) and took the easy way out at the very least (if it wasn’t an outright dive) the second time.

    Mike Tyson: The ear bite was a quit job. He was told ‘do it one more time and you’re DQ’d’ after taking his first chunk out of Holyfield, then immediately went straight to doing it again.

    Andrew Golota: Another guy who fouled out, vs Bowe twice and in other instances. Apparently that Rocky song ‘There ain’t no easy way out/no short way home’ wasn’t translated to Polish.

    Who else makes this Wall of Shame?

    Well some do say Buster Douglas quit Against Tony Tucker.. and he certainly accomplished something after.

    Jess Willard: Quit against Joe Cox. Went on to beat Jack Johnson. Then quit against a spent Dempsey and went on to beat Floyd Johnson in his comeback.

    Interesting post ,never saw that here before so kudos ...Bert Cooper comes to mind as he pretty much quit vs Foreman but came back to give Mercer a terrific fight and rock Holyfield's world in a title bout ..Willard quit early in his career against Cox claiming he was poorly prepared I believe.

    Bruce Seldon literally threw himself to the canvas and faked unconsciousness vs Mike Tyson. I mean I would have done the same thing but still...

    Carlos Quintana quit on his stool vs Miguel Cotto and then went on to upset Paul Williams for the Welterweight title.

    Genaro Hernandez quit against De La Hoya and later went on to win the WBC and lineal title against Azumah Nelson in 1997.

    Vitali Klitschko, who refused to go out until the 11th round against Byrd.Luan Krasniqi in his fight with Saleta. Michalczewski with Rocckighiani. Hopkins with Dawson. ... I also always had the impression that Foreman, for example, didn't try to get up in the fight with Ali. There are many more examples, but I'm writing from memory.

    Hilario Zapata quitting in the second fight against Jung Koo Chang and still managed to be champion at Flyweight. Eventually became a HOFer.

    Dubois quitting against Usyk before going on a good three win streak, capped by stopping AJ, and then qutting against Usyk again.

    He also quit against Joyce, but that was a legit injury to the eye. Caused by Joyce, but still.

    That’s an interesting one as he could have taken the easy route out against Azumah after a flagrant foul but chose to fight on.
