There is a certainly a huge gap in the British Boxing Broadcasting market that needs filled. DAZN has hacked off nearly all boxing fans in the UK, shafted casuals buying PPVs with unwanted charges for subscriptions and these people won't be back. I do think Sky or TNT Sports will be back showing boxing soon enough as well.
Well that'll be boxxers 3rd show in 2 month. Surely they have more than the 4 dates a year that was initially been banded around. Let me guess, it was Eddie that claimed there was only 4 dates per year.!!
Great that he's getting out again soon, also good for British boxing that he's on BBC (i didn't expect him too tbh). I imagine it will do good numbers and raise his profile. It's good that we get 3 shows in quick succession on the BBC, but aren't Boxxer in danger of exhausting all the allotted shows in one go? Hearn said recently they only have a 4 fight a year deal, which would mean after Azim they would only have 1 card remaining for the next 9 months or so! Talk about a lean schedule.
Have they even got enough fighters to do the 4 shows? It’s great that boxing is on mainstream tv especially given that at the minute it’s the least accessible it’s ever been, but is there enough meat on the boxxer/bbc budget to get these fighters the fights that fans want to see and the fights they need to progress their careers? Who’s azim actually fighting in January?
Hearn is little more than a gossip monger at times or stretches truths to the point of snapping. It's quite possible the "4 dates a year" are the headline national ones on BBC2 and the remainder will be iPlayer shows. In this day and age with a younger audience it'll make no odds what platform the shows are on, but the BBC will put maximum exposure into BBC2. It's already reaching embarrassing levels with TKV's life story high up the BBC Sport site, when they wouldn't even mention him on the regional sports pages any other day of the year! But... good for Boxxer and good to have more boxing on the telly. The hype for Lauren Price is going to be unbearable though. Imagine how the BBC would have turned Price-Jonas into Ali-Frasier 4.
Maybe this contract is just for four shows, rather than four shows ‘over the course of a year’? The closer they’re squashed together, the bigger the chance of building a bit of a momentum and viewers, and presumably increases the chances of extending the deal.
Shalom says he’ll be doing a show every month apart from a break in summer. Great news. Also confirms Hearn has been fibbing again. This content is protected
Looking forward to the HW fight tomorrow night, hoping it’s explosive. Favour Clarke but you never know; there’s no way he’ll be as resilient as he was after the Wardley injury. Anyone know whether this will clash with the Whittaker fight? Would be a shame. But a bit historic to see British title fight boxing back on BBC, so can’t wait to see it.
