I believe in the saying "may the best man win".
If Jake Paul pulls of the impossible (it's 1000-1 in my book), steps in the ring at beats him in a legit contest, then he deserves the credit. It makes him look good, it makes AJ look bad, not boxing. In fact, AJ's looking bad anyway, whatever happens.

AJ started boxing at 18 and won the World silver medal at 21, and then the Olympic gold at age 22, just 4 1/2 years after putting on gloves for the first time. Did that make boxing look bad? Most of the guys he beat in the amateurs were way more experienced.

If AJ loses to Jake Paul, that's bad for HIS legacy, and good for Jake Paul's.
It makes no difference to the status of boxing.

The idea that Jake Paul could even win a fight with AJ is insane really anyway.
    He's a 1000-to-1 shot.
So the story would be how amazing his achievement is, in that ridiculously unlikely scenario. Nothing else. We'd all have to bow at his feet. That's the truth.

I never said he doesn't deserve credit if he wins but it would be a big embarrassment to boxing if Joshua loses I don't see how you could think otherwise.

And then even worse we probably get Usyk vs Paul.

As I said I don't like gimmicky fights being involved in the serious side of our sport.

Stupid 245lb max limit is going to backfire on Jake Paul. Yeah, Jake, what you really want is an extra in shape AJ who is quicker on his toes, and who is pissed off from having to starve off 10-15lbs.

It'd be like Ngannou having a deal in his Fury fight that Fury had to show up in tip top shape and not above 260 lbs.

I understood what you said but i think the opposite.
Jake Paul winning (legitimately) (as unlikely as it is) is practically the ONLY way boxing comes out of this looking alright.

Upsets never hurt boxing. Underdogs winning 'against all odds' never hurt boxing.
What hurts boxing is OBVIOUS MISMATCHES turning out looking exactly like ..... obvious mismatches.

I’ve noticed AJ seems largely immune to criticism for whatever odd reason.

Floyd and Fury got (rightful) criticism for taking on MMA novices, but AJ was cheered on for taking on the same Ngannou that Fury got criticised for fighting.

Tank Davis got rightful criticism for facing Jake Paul, but now AJ is taking the fight, he’s no longer making a mockery of boxing as was accused of Floyd, Fury and Tank; AJ is apparently “saving the sport”.

If Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua is a genuine contest that goes ahead, I give Jake Paul credit for finally testing himself against a legitimate opponent, and Joshua gets no credit for fighting a top 100 (at best) cruiserweight when he should be fighting heavyweight contenders to get back in the picture for a title shot.

Fully expecting Jake Paul to get blasted out in 2 rounds max, but best of luck to him.

Exactly. AJ should be absolutely ostracized by fans for taking this fight (made worse by the fact his last WIN was against a 0-1 boxer Ngannou).
Whatever his performance, he deserves harsh condemnation. On paper, Jake Paul is several levels and at least one huge weight class below him. And, yes, Jake Paul, if he gets in that ring in a 'real fight', has HUGE balls.

Weird that some people are portraying AJ as some sort of saviour/hero for taking it. A more respectable thing to do would be to turn down tens of millions and announce he doesn't do this kind of fight, and tell Jake to get some sort of ranking first.
Now, I'm not saying I would turn down tens of millions if I was AJ, but I certainly wouldn't expect to be revered for prostituting myself to fight someone so lowly at this stage of his career. It's a clown act, and not even justified as a WWE or exhibition, it's apparently allowed as a 'tune up', which is stupid. Jake Paul isn't even heavyweight journeyman.
I forgive AJ the Ngannou one because Fury kind of legitimized Ngannou, but this is awful.

I don’t understand what this guy is doing. I’ve always considered him trash/average prospect level for his progress (he would have a challenge to win an area level title but it’s not out of the question I suppose) and give him the respect of actually lacing them up and putting work in even if often in a sort of rigged way and against lesser trained boxers or washed fighters. He does have somewhat of a point when he says look at who a lot of other fighters fights in fifteen fights. Like he is going from an elite super lightweight to top 5 heavyweight, I don’t get it lol. He is going to get his props for going out in a deluded blaze of pathetic glory IRONED OUT as froch likes to say. I’m just surprised he hasn’t milked ten more opponents before going for the much desired public execution route. Maybe he believes his brand can take the hit if it’s against a giant former champ rather than a lesser ranked fighter. The guy is nuts either way, Joshua doesn’t entertain carrying anybody and he liked what Ngannou was about.
