Wow man what a real deal, fighting Curtis Stevens while Canelo was out here walking Kovalev down.

Canelo, for sure. He's beaten better guys, moved about in weight, won basically every title and while GGG was excellent, a lot of his title defences are meaningless and even the ones that aren't, were not for the lineal title.

^ This supports my view that the casuals will jerk themselves off over Canelo because they lack the knowledge and context to properly evaluate his resume. They will just see the names and make assumptions.

The hardcore fans will know that Kovelev had recently had a brutal fight against Yarde, had been signed at short notice against Canelo before fully recovering AND had been weight drained into the deal. Yeah, it's on Kovalev for signing those terms. I guess he had run out of money to fuel his alcoholism.

But let's not pretend for a second that Canelo fought the ripsnorting precision destruction machine that had been the Krusher at his best.

Kovalev doesn’t really need to be at his best to be 10x better than Curtis Stevens.

GGG is carried by his aura and eye test. That’s the ugly truth because he could have been so much more if he wasn’t content with ruling over an empty division.

I hate when people pretend as if they support boxers who “take risks and dare to be great” then trash on Canelo for trying his shot and losing against historic talents. He lost to guys GGG wouldn’t even dare step into the ring with.

Are you ignoring the fact that Canelo targeted Kovalev because he was completely shot??

Heyyy did you hear Jake Paul beat Mike Tyson!? Sounds like the sort of fight that will amaze you.
Ruling with an iron fist always makes the division look poor.
I hate it when people pretend that Canelo didn't try to stack most fights his way, isn't a drugs cheat, isn't magically favoured by judges every time and benefitted from having hordes of clueless fans that supported him no matter what.

Fun fact: That Kovalev beats 95% of GGG’s opposition.

It also looks poor when Lemieux is among your best wins.

Its basically conspiracies about Canelo vs FACTS that GGG’s resume is empty and he is hard-carried by being a scary EE dude.

I disagree mate, I think fighters avoiding him for years had a direct, negative impact on his resume.

Daniel Geale more or less relinquished his IBF title rather than fight him. Sergio Martinez and his team went on record saying they weren't fighting him because of the risk/reward ratio. Felix Sturm avoided him when he was his WBA mandatory, even when Golovkin offered to fight him in Germany. If he had all of these names on his resume, then he'd have a much stronger case as an ATG. Cotto's team chose to fight Canelo instead, which I don't blame them for; they offered more money, and Cotto was nearing the end. Even Saunders and Eubank priced themselves out, though they're both Euro-level fighters who wouldn't have done much. It shows how scared people were.

Canelo, Derevyanchenko, and Jacobs aged him out, though; they fought a version of him on the slide. Jacobs fought him a few weeks shy of his 35th birthday, when he clearly wasn't the same animal he had been between 2012 and 2015, which is why Canelo finally agreed to fight him. As for the first Canelo fight, he was still robbed, despite being over the hill. I agree with you, though. He didn't win the second one, even though many people say he did.

Canelo has the better resume on paper, but the fact that he aged GGG out, robbed him in the first fight, and then tested positive for clenbuterol in the window between the first and second fights all tarnish his legacy. I believe a 2012/2015 Golovkin would've walked through any version of Canelo, but nobody gave him the chance; they weren't stupid, and even though the history books might overlook this, this is why people take umbrage to anyone claiming Golovkin is not HOF-worthy (although I know that's not the point you're making.)

    Canelo

The face of boxing tends to get romanticized over time, even if people were critical of them while they fought

Ive already seen this with Floyd

In 20 years hardly anyone will know or care about GGG

He doesn't though. The WBA interim or regular belt doesn't count. Why do the Bumluvkinites always bring up this false claim? GGG's MW run didn't start until Daniel Geale was stripped of the super title in late 2012/beginning 2013. GGG's first title defense happened when he fought Gabe Rosado in January 2013, that's when he was the sole holder of the WBA 160 pound title.

Great Post, sadly this is Boxing and it should not be allowed...

Boards & Sanctioning Bodies should make All Top Level Contention Eliminations & Championship Fights, No Questions asked, you're No.1 or forfeit the Title...

Managers, Promotors & matchmakers have No Say for a Fighters No.1 Contender for Title Fights.

    Sport, not corrupt business.

GGG more fondly, but Canelo would be remembered by more people.
