Wilder, after being completely shut out by Parker, was obliterated by Zhang, and Zhang was taken apart by Kabayel.

No, Usyk doesn't deserve a pass.
Not only is Deontay Wilder nowhere near any reasonable heavyweight rankings (he'd be lucky to get placed in a top 40 or top 50), he's 40 years old and completely and demonstrably 'shot' to pieces.

 

On top of which, he was always MASSIVELY overrated...

 

I bet this win would be ranked somewhat well in decades from now, even tho it shouldn't. There will be that magical element of Usyk having beaten the 3 biggest names of this era.

 

There is no legacy privilage in boxing. Either you've done enough, then you should retire, or you stay a champion and fight worthy opponents.

 

Yet every champion has done something like this. Name me one top p4p fighter in the past 15 years that hasn’t done a Wilder type fight? Yes, if he does it 3-5 fights in a row that’s a diff story.

You answered your own question. Structually he has the interim title and I get all the politics but hes a more boring version of the Wilder fight.

 

There was a point, long gone now, when this fight would have been relevant. But we are waay past it now (as is Wilder). I get that a Wilder win would add some name 'recognition,' historically, as he is from the big four of the era. And I suppose I'd be more forgiving if it was Usyk's last fight. But Wilder is SO obviously finished now it's a hard one to support and justify.

 

I can't remember a single top P4P fighter in the past 15 years fighting a fighter who is 2-4 in their last 6 fights whilst being a totally shot 40 year old.

The closest would be Mayweather vs Berto who was 3-3 in his last 6 fights.

But Berto was atleast coming off a solid win vs Josesito Lopez for the WBA interim title.

And Berto atleast showed he had something left after the Mayweather fight beating Victor Ortiz in a rematch and beating Devon Alexander.

Not to mention the context of Berto's losses prior to Mayweather fight were alot better than Wilder's losses.

Berto lost to Ortiz in the fight of the year.

Berto lost to Karass in another action packed fight that was razor thin close on the scorecards.

In comparison to Wilder....

Wilder lost 12-0 to Parker without throwing a right hand in anger.

Wilder got highlight reel KO'ed by Zhang in 5 rounds.

Wilder didn't win a single round in any of these fights.

So no not really comparable this is a horrible fight and Usyk should get criticised for it.

 

Very strange choice for Uysk

As good as his career has been, you can't help but criticise this one if it comes off

 

Floyd had established guys at 147 he could have fought instead of Berto. Looking back, he probably should have just fought Kell Brook. Usyk doesn't really have anyone like that in the division right now, Parker was deserving but he lost.

Yes Usyk has had a long and storied career. He beat three people twice and Derek Chisora he has nothing left to prove.
