Its tough cause hes below the regional level but was the 2nd biggest states champ and was 24-5. Ajagba and Torrez had previously farmed Herndon and he was about 100 spots higher before the Wilder fight. I don't think boxrec rankings matter if someone is far outside the top 100 or 125. I think after the top 100-150 the next few hundred are just kinda there. Inflated records makes it tough but I normally associate a journeyman as someone who isn't winning stuff as a pro. It'd be one thing if he was the champ of Wyoming or Vermont but he was the champ of Texas. Its hard to say with Jake Paul because the non elite level of CW is so much worse then HW. Beyond Tommy Fury and the Cruisers Pauls fought you've got someone fighting a retired ex MW champ like JCC Jr and MMA fighters. How do you compare that to a HW on the Texas scene winning 88% of the time on that level but getting crushed when he fights a world level guy? I really don't know.
As long as he loses belts I am with you. Like canelo he has earned any match he wants. He can fight jake paul if he wants and I am fine with it as long as he doesn't keep his belts at the same time, keeping challengers waiting.
I have this weird feeling Wilder will win - call me crazy if you wish... but. In his last fight, Wilder didn't look the frail man he had looked against Zhang and Parker. He also started getting his punches off. Bear with me... If Usyk can get caught by Joshua - which he did. Pressured by Chisora - which he did (albeit in his 2nd/3rd fight at heavy) Is it beyond the realms of possibility that Deontay does land a right hand (similar to the straight right he hit Ortiz with) - this assumes he hasn't completely lost his speed, or awareness of an opening. Logically its Usyk as easy winner, but when has boxing been logical.
Wilder gets beaten up here. Usyk mid rounds TKO. This will be Wilder’s last fight. Prime Wilder just might have a small chance of landing a right hand if he fought on the backfoot waiting for Usyk to push him.
Most likely. Usyk hits harder than Fury, is defensively better than Fury with higher IQ, has a better chin than Fury and... Wilder is older than when he fought Fury. And Usyk won't turn up a fat unprepared mess like Fury did twice - and Wilder couldn't even beat that. Everything sane points to an Usyk domination and stoppage against ANY version of Wilder... Even a time machine wouldn't get him a win here.
Most of the time. It's just the dramatic exceptions that get people excited and get remembered... I wouldn't ever pick or bet on the basis that it'd feel nice to pick the silly option and be right in one out of twenty, fifty, hundred, whatever fights.
Oh man can you imagine the uproar if Wilder got lucky, and caned Usyk!! Unlikely but it sets up that neat little arc..Fury whips Wilder/Usyk whips Fury/Wilder whips Usyk??
