Usyk Should Be Criticized For Fighting Wilder

Nah, I think this BS of a fight will be a one off or just the last fight of his career. I wouldn't mind if it was the latter.

 

Kabayel is an astronomically more COMPETITIVE fight but certainly NOT better in terms of making money or adding to legacy. Wilder is better in those regards. And that's Kabayel's doing solely.

Also, Wilder deserves whatever he gets, CTE or otherwise. He said he wanted to "take a body." According to his own brother, he slept w his brother's wife. He accused a HOF fighter/trainer of spiking his drink. He accused opponents of using "ancestral spirits" to beat him. He made baseless accusations of fighters using egg weights. He's a racist.

Wilder will sleep in the bed he's made. I do not WISH poor health outcomes for him but I would not protest in any way. He does not strike me as a good person. At all. Matter of fact, I hope Usyk fights Wilder twice XD XD XD

He shouldn’t be criticised, he is within his rights to retire at this point given his age and past accomplishments so every extra fight he has is a bonus.

 

Mayweather eclipsed Usyks present accomplishments years prior to retirement yet still gets criticized for late career ducking. By that logic anything Mayweather did post Oscar is a bonus and can't be criticized.

He'd already beaten as many ranked opponents as Usyk by that stage/probably more

 

Floyd had a good resume, not great. He drained opponents (Corrales), used catchweights (Canelo), renegged on catchweights (JMM), picked opponent gloves (Maidana), retired when he didnt want to face opponents (Margarito), imposed stricter drug testing with no objective oversight (Manny, etc.), and, yes, Floyd was significantly involved in selecting judges and referees (all fights post DLH). Dont forget every fight Floyd had needed to be where Floyd was...in Vegas. This myth that Vegas was the Mecca of boxing couldn't be more transparent for nonsense than it is today...I'm not even sure Vegas is the best place in America to watch boxing.

Still, Floyd is a Top 20 ATG but the legend of Floyd is greater than Floyd was. Floyd DID LOSE in JLC1 - that's a widely accepted gift decision that Floyd received for being the "A" side. And it's fine, everyone loses. SRR lost, SRL lost, Ali lost, and Floyd lost - everyone loses.

Although Floyd does not have an ATG resume, his resume IS great. He was NEVER undisputed let alone in 2 (Usyk, Inoue) or 3 (Bud) weight classes. Floyd conveniently didnt try to unify when competition might have meant a challenge. Usyk, on the other hand, always fought on the road against his opponents whether that was America, UK, Saudi, etc. Usyk (like Floyd) was almost always the smaller fighter and (unlike Floyd) fought opponents in their PRIME. Canelo was nowhere near his prime when Floyd fought him. Manny, DLH, Mosley, Cotto, and pretty much every Floyd opponent was nowhere near their prime. Usyk beat the best version of Fury, AJ, Dubois, etc.

I'll take Usyk's resume over Floyd's regardless whether you want to examine/split pre/post DLH versions.

Floyd beat more than twice as many ranked opponents as Usyk (17+) to Usyks 7. So it's hard to understand that argument. He was already ahead of Usyk in ranked opponents beaten by 2007.

How was Fury prime? He hadn't beaten a ranked opponent in years had just scraped by Ngannou and retired immediately afterwards while showing no sign of wanting to come back. Seems hard to believe he was prime. Huck was also clearly past prime.

 

Oooh you sadist lol. It’s definitely a better fight if you enjoy seeing Deontay getting a beating, which like you say after some of this questionable behaviour is quite deserved haha.

I am pretty sure Mchunu was usually ranked in the top 10 at the time. And of course here I am not taking into account the rematches, if I did I would however not count the first Dubois fight.



Also, I disagree with many of the other posters criticisms.

 

He should just retire instead of doing stupid fights like this.
