Good news! WBC to create a "light cruiserweight division."

Zurdo did it easy and he got dismantled by Bivol. Do you really think prime Beterbiev and Bivol are too small to win belts at cruiserweight ? Squeo is like 5'10 and built like a light heavyweight but still did better than some of Opetaias larger opponents. Weight classes exist for a reason and I am telling you there is no real reason for this category cause it just cuts down the talent pool at 175 and 200.


The actual move is to increase light heavyweight to 180-185

 

I don't think we need a reduction of divisions, especially on the lower end where 5-10 pounds makes a real difference. And I don't think there needs to be a cap on the high end. I'm just for fewer sanctioning bodies.

And I'd never cap the lower end. The little dudes can be great fun to watch. Tell me you don't like watching Inoue or Bam. There's so much elite level fighting the little guys are capable of, why leave them out of the sport because they happened to only grow to 5'3"? FFS, boxing is basically the only opportunity for a professional athletic career for guys that size.

Oh, I know the lower weights are great. I was responding to a post that suggested reducing the divisions. If I had a choice, I do it the way I stated. But, I'm not a fan of reducing divisions, although, I would love to see a cap on the out of shape heavies.

It is no coincidence it is the WBC. They were Hell bent on Bridger, that is a big failure. So now they want to create a new weight in as barren a talent pool as cruiser. Who in their right mind would go up or shrink down to a weight no other org recognize. You are screwing your self and locking yourself to WBC.

 

No, you bring Cruiser back to 190 and create a 210 division.

And you delete all of the filler BS divisions!

10 divisions, more than enough! And maybe add 105 if you feel like being generous to the short kings. There are not that many 105 champions who end up finding success at 112, they just are too small for that jump(pun intended). Plus plenty of 108 guys would be squeezing down instead of going up, so the talent pool there would increase a fair bit.
Its a fun division with plenty of good talent in there regularly.

 

Thing is, bridger is a great concept. A division for all the 70's sized dudes who might struggle some to make cruiser.

Hasn't worked out, but the concept is as solid as it gets.

 

At the least, throw in 105. There are a lot of really little dudes born with amazing athletic talent. Give them the chance to show what they've got.

**** me, I'm more generous to the little guys than I am to the bigger guys, because there's so much untapped talent down there. We know a lot of good boxers come from rough backgrounds, poverty. There are so many greats from latin america, where your average dude when lean and fit is probably a lightweight. How much is your average Chinese or Vietnamese dude when lean and fit? 120? I think boxing should be doing what it can to bring interest from that huge population so it produces more fighters. What athletic talent is being wasted in some rice field somewhere?

 

I support Bridger as a better weight class than CW because it doesn't take away from LHW and won't take away actual contenders from HW.

But you're still right in that the WBC president has an Adam Silver or Infantino like impulsive need to accomplish things so he can leave a legacy. Every few months he leaves a press release with this idea or that idea, some are good and some are bad but hes acting like hes a politican and not in sports management. Its like bruh just run the WBC and stop trying to leave a mark on history.

CW has been around forever so I fail to see your point with Zurdo losing at LHW and going to CW

 

Because if Zurdo got embarrassed by a light heavyweight, then won a belt at cruiserweight, there literally is no point of a weight class between cruiserweight and light heavyweight. What purpose does it serve besides cutting down talent in both divisions ? Benavidez plans on jumping for a Zurdo fight, because winning a belt at cruiserweight is not a step too far for most world level light heavyweights.

 

And how do you like Benavidez vs Jai? The only issue is too many sanctioning bodies letting **** like Jai Opetaia not being THE cruiserweight champ happen.
