What does Wilder mean to Fury's legacy?

Ortiz rating is largely guesswork. We have no idea how to rate him due to his competition. He was probably top 10 at one point due to the Jennings fight but he never did anything else of note.

Top 10 circa 2012 to 2015 is probably a safe bet but beyond that things get iffy

WIlder never was afraid to pull the trigger in his prime, in fact the complete exact opposite, he was an extreme head hunter and was made fun of for that

Obviously after getting Kod twice by Fury and becoming more civilized he was gun shy vs Parker (whos not even a big puncher) and Zhang

Fighters have primes and obviously being in 2 gruelling fights with Fury where he took a ton of punishment, took a lot out of Wilder

I cant imagine any sensilbe person thinking that Joe Joyce from the Hrgovic fight is the same as the Joe Joyce from the Dubois fight

 

I hope you got receipts that you called AJ to fight against Wardley instead of Franklin, Helenius and Ngannou at the time then Helenius was taken at 7 days notice, so it doesn't even make any sense.

Yeah, he never did, but his haters laughed even at the possiblity of the fight happening, and now you guys saying he ducked him. Classic.

 

Even then he was viewed as a harder matchup than those guys. Ngannou has never won a pro fight.

He was also seen as more dangerous than a shot Whyte who Joshua was originally scheduled to fight.

 

His obsession with Wilder and Fury knows no bounds. It is hourly, daily, weekly, yearly. Every breathing minute. Very likely dreams about them as well.

 

So you were the one calling for the Wardley fight instead of Whyte and Ngannou, right? Show the receipts Wardley was area level in 2023, Whyte was in The Ring's Top 10.

 

Ayo, the delusional one shoulda bowed out after his first loss, woulda kept his myth alive a lot longer and then come out of retirement for a more substantial payday. As it stands, should he beat Usyk by knockout, even if it's a fluke, Fury's stock increases regardless. More chance of me getting sober than that though haha

 

Ngannou has never won a professional fight, nobody should have to explain why Joshua fighting him was a waste of time or why Wardley was more deserving because that is self evident.

Whyte looked terrible against Fury and Franklin and was widely considered shot. It also did nothing for Joshua as he had already decisively beaten him via kayo.

There are plenty of more attractive opponents than the guys he chose to fight.

 

Well, Wilder outside of AJ was the best Fury had to fight so you can’t complain too much about him being a big part of Fury’s legacy.
Nice of Usyk to come along and shut up that ‘no one born by his mother can beat me’ nonsense though.
Fury was the best of a bad bunch, we have to say he was the best heavyweight for a period, the big jittery man with the beer belly and caravan.

 

Anyone else find it funny how you don’t hear high level fighters or coaches say Wilder was all smoke and mirrors, but a lot of people on the internet do?

Maybe people are going by his actual resume and how he actually did against his contemporaries, actual tangible accomplishments. The sort of things people typically use to rate fighters.

 

Ngannou embarrassed Fury in the fight before that. Boxing needed a saviour and AJ was that. So, show me the posts where you were calling for AJ to fight Wardley then

Still was rated way higher than Wardley. I assume you called AJ to face Wardley instead of Whyte, right? Show me.

Cool, but that doesn't change the fact that nobody, including you, listed Wardley as one of the options

 

Just not ones like 39-0, 90+% KO ratio, becoming a world champion, and medaling on the olympics right? Those don’t count?



My issue isnt with people saying hes not the best of his era… Or ranking him below Usyk, Fury, AJ… My issue is with those saying things like he’s “a myth” or speaking as if hes a bum who can’t fight - which happens a lot…. And also just shows who has any amount of understanding of actual boxing (and I’d almost argue general athletics, or even competition of any kind)… The kind that reading boxrec and watching fights can’t give you…

No it didn't. Fury was embarrassed by Cunningham and McDermott. Nobody is required to fight them because Fury had awful performances against them and the same is true for Ngannou.

Not fighting Wardley is a fair criticism if he's fighting lesser opponents which he did.

Id rate Bakole, Hrgovic, even Kabayel as more interesting opponents than the guys he actually was fighting aside from Dubois

 

Joshua followed Fury down the Ngannou route. Perhaps Fury will follow Joshua down the Jake Paul route next?
