1988 Tyson VS. Holyfield (Bowe 2 fight)

pretty old for those days.. especially for a boxer that had been thru the wars. How old was Tyson when Douglas stopped him?

 

Well, Tyson won the title in 86, at 20, the first one against Berbick. So he was I believe 23 still vs Douglas and would turn 24 that year.

 

Fun fact Mike in his book said "I would have knocked holyfield out in 91, he knows it, I know it"
I can see Mike beating all the guys he lost to in his prime.

But he is never beating Evander. They can fight 100 times and I firmly believe Evander beats him 100 times.

It all comes down to that Evander was an infighter and Mike was a mid range fighter jumping in all the time. If you watch him fight Tubbs,Mathis,Mcneely. Look at just how akward he looks fighting these guys, He did win, sure. But it just looked so akward like he did not know what to do. If he didn't have his power, he likely would have been in for hell

 

Why didn't he defeat Bowe when he was younger and before the Great War?
Why was Douglas a champion at 30 and not at 24? Why has no 20-year-old ever been a champion?

 

Holyfield was old by the first Bowe fight. He retired after that fight.
Holyfield stops Tyson.. again..

 

This is a bit of weird one, because I believe he peaked this night and then declined quickly. Might have been due to overuse of PEDs, but it's a fairly unique one.

But this Holy still had his speed and mobility, but was more physically imposing at 217 lbs. The same size he was when he actually faced Tyson, but quicker with a better workrate.

 

I don't believe it. Bowe-Holyfield II was the first time Holyfield looked inflexible.. and slower. Not his best fight. He looked better in Holyfield-Tyson II.

 

Well, we have to agree to disagree. He did indeed look good in the rematch against Tyson and I think also that version beats any version of Tyson, but it was too short to give us the same overall view. Against Bowe he both boxed and brawled and did so for 12.
