Floyd has so many asterisks next to his wins it’s ridiculous.
Hatton, coming up in weight, worst ref ever, probably still his best win in context.

De La Hoya- Old, arguably won.

    Mosley - Old

Pac - Injured, declined much further than Floyd, Floyd avoided him prime. Good win still.

    Marquez- cstchweight clauses favouring Floyd.

    Cotto - Decent win

    Judah - good win

    Castillo - lost

    Maidana - lost

    Maidana again - good win

McGregor - mma fighter, specifically to break Rocky’s record.

Now you can say a lot of Rocky’s better opponents were old too which is true, but Rocky was a small heavyweight as well.

Not many guys Rocky’s size and reach historically are beating him, hard to argue but there might be more around Floyd’s size that beat him, technical skills become a bit of a moot point then.

    Okay.

Now go and do the exact same with Rocky’s resume.

A 36 year old, near 70 fight Louis, who was fighting to pay off the tax man.

A 40 odd year old Moore, who was a former MW who’d had 180 fights!

Think about that for a second. 180 fights. That’s ridiculous.

You say that not many guys of Rocky’s size/weight could have beaten him. Okay. But he’d have been a modern day CW, which hasn’t had a history of lots of true ATG fighters.

Whereas there’s been many, many ATG fighters who fought at the weights that Floyd did.

So that is not a fair comparison at all.

We can name just some WW’s alone, which would be a bigger group of great fighters than who’d fought at CW.

Is it not an interesting criteria as to who is the better fighter if you beat more men your size than I can ?
Whether that’s true of Rocky v Floyd I’m not even sure. Hard to judge. Still.

Louis may have been old, he wasn’t Castillo either..

Young Archie was just getting started, he had nearly as many fights after Rocky as Floyd’s whole career and was a world champion for the better part of another decade

Floyd could out box fighters of different sizes.

Ricky overpowered people. Mostly faded people, who were prime in lower weight classes.

Regarding what you’ve said about Archie, what does that tell you about the era that he fought in.

It would be unthinkable for Archie to have been a champion in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, at that age, with that mileage.

    Archie was a true ATG.

One of the greatest fighters of all time.

But his run at HW just highlights how poor the era was.

Maybe at Heavyweight. Before Usyk the current era was hardly better.

Who did Mayweather really best in their prime without clauses or stacking the odds for himself to put him so much higher above Rocky ?

He doesn’t have a great win either

His first big win was Coralles probably, then he should have lost against the next decent guy he fought in Castillo.

Zudah next, a good win, hardly great

Then his best run starting with De la Hoya who was shot and basically could have gone either way and he was 4 years older than Floyd.

Hatton was bull**** with the ref shenanigans

Mosley was old still a good win.

    Cotto- again, good

    Marquez -BS catchweight

Canelo was BS catchweight again but a good win

His record is good but it’s overrated, is it really that much better than Rocky’s?

Imagine Floyd trying his catchweight rubbish back in the day.

Mayweather won 26 World title fights and beat 21 top 10 ranked opponents.

Marciano won 8 World title fights and beat 10 top 10 ranked opponents.

Mayweather has a much more vast resume and better achievements.

So yes Mayweather's resume is considerably better overall.

And did Marciano beat any prime opponents ?

Louis was a shell of himself.

Walcott at the end of his career.

Charles 2-2 in his last 4 fights and would go on to lose 13 out of his next 23 fights after the Marciano losses.

    Moore 41 years old.

If you want to find holes in Mayweather's resume it's not hard to do the same with Marciano either.

Mayweather ran away from his biggest challenge until he was damaged goods.

His record might be better but you can lower those numbers a bit with two blatant robberies and at least 3 wins that were BS or cheat jobs.

Rocky has 3 bona fide greats on his record, Mayweather has none. And Louis was the only one of them that was really shot, Charles wasn’t as good but still pretty dangerous, Moore was still very good/great.
The rest of his record isn’t the list of nobodies people make it out to be either. It’s not the best record but Rocky found a way to win without needing any extra help.

They both can present a problem to most fighters around their size

I didn’t want to find holes in it, asked why Marciano over Mayweather, I prefer him and think they’re pretty close.
To most fans though mayweather is a god and Marciano is an unskilled caveman. Rocky didn’t start his career until his mid 20s either, he’s not going to have as many world title fights

Marciano also retired in his early 30s which is why he didn't have as many world title fights unlike most of his notable opponents.

I don’t think that’s too much of a knock on him, I wouldn’t try to argue he has longevity over Mayweather

Well you've just answered your own question.

Marciano doesn't have anywhere near the longevity or vast resume of Mayweather that's why Mayweather rates considerably higher than Marciano.

Not to mention Mayweathers world title wins and achievements are considerably better.

His resume is simply better. By any metric. It just has far more depth.

    Regarding your points above:

Corrales and Castillo were excellent wins, but yes, he could have lost the first one.

Oscar wasn’t shot. But absolutely faded.

The Canelo win was great, but the C-W was a disgrace.

But again, you had a 40 odd year old, 180 fight Moore on Rocky’s resume.

And take away those 4 faded greats, and you’re left with nothing.

    Floyd has:

    Oscar
    Manny
    Shane
    JMM
    Cotto
    Canelo

They were great fighters. But it is a shame that none of them were prime.

However, apart from Manny, Floyd couldn’t have done anything about it.

May has the better and longer record
Rock has legends and less controversy
May was beaten by Castillo and Maidana
May loses to more fighters of similar weight and dimensions than Rock does.
May played it safe 100% and ran away from Pac. He should be ashamed to call himself the goat, he loses points there.

    They’re close

    They’re not close though.

    Ability:

Floyd was simply on another level.

    Overall resume:

Floyd has a much, much deeper overall resume.

    Wins:

Floyd has a much better group of top wins.

    Accomplishments:

Okay, Rocky only fought in one division. But it was very weak. Floyd achieved more.

    Longevity:

Floyd fought world level fighters in his late 30’s. He had the better longevity.

Under traditional ranking criteria, Rocky cannot rank higher.
