He wasn't pulling punches. The ones that missed (most of them) were thrown with full intent. He just wasn't setting them up at all. Not really using his jab, not feinting much either. He basically fought like Wilder trying to headhunt a KO and did an awful job at it.

It was an embarrassment performance from what's supposed to be a top heavyweight. No wonder he didn't rematch Dubios...

Now wait for Fury to take the Paul fight and pull off either a demolition job inside 2 or just toys with him for 8 without getting hit once. It's opened the door to a circus act again.

If you watched the fight, it’s easy to see what happened. In the first several rounds, Jake was running, which disrupted AJ’s plan to get him out early. As a result, AJ, who has questionable mental fortitude, panicked and tried to force a KO against a smaller running man who wasn’t engaging. That’s not easy, and AJ has never been great at cutting off the ring.

Once AJ calmed down, he was able to unload on Jake and finally get him out.

Also this is 36 year old AJ fighting off ring rust.

Force a KO? Without throwing any bodyshots when Paul was right there? Throwing phantom punches way out of distance ? If he was forcing a ko what was he wasting his time doing that for?

If you genuinely believe that Joshua was throwing full force and actually trying to end it much before rd 6, then the idea that a significantly less powerful puncher is going to steamroll the guy inside 2 seems like nonsense.

Either Joshua took it easy or JP is world level durable at heavy... If the former, Fury can stop him (but he'd have to give it more like 100%, which Fury typically doesn't against lesser opponents) and if the latter then Fury would be lucky to stop him at all.

I genuinely think he was carrying Paul - it's the only explanation that truly makes sense...

But that's precisely the problem with this kind of farce - people try and analyse it as if it's something serious when it simply isn't... This one always was a farce that makes the Ngannou bouts look legit.

This is the kind of discussion you get from someone like joshua legitimizing jake paul with a fight.

No matter wether he carried him for whatever reason (which is what i think) or was so unbelievably abysmal that he couldn't get rid of a weak cruiser in style -
Joshua made a dent in the boxing community and I really hope his reputation suffers for it.

70 million payed for with losing his whole legacy if you ask me...

...looking forward to the fury joshua comments where people disregard the jake paul performance somehow in order to make the mental jump to be able to support Joshua. I haven't been this annoyed by a fighter in a long time. This is almost more annoying than canelo's cherry picks...

Jake Paul landed 16 overall punches, stop acting like he did anything worth talking about

I'd recommend rewatching the fight. For someone "carrying" Jake Paul he had no issues hitting him when he was down, going for an obvious foul when "falling" on him too. He threw multiple shots with full force but couldn't land them.

Put it this way, would you accept people claiming Fury "carried" Ngannou as well? It's no different here.

Not exactly the same is it?

Joshua turned up in shape, Fury turned up a fat mess.

Ngannou turned up to fight, Paul turned up to run.

Joshua had the power to knock out Paul, whilst Paul didn't have the power to hurt Joshua.

Fury didn't have the power to knock out Ngannou, whilst Ngannou did have the power to hurt Fury.

Ngannou saw the final bell having been surprisingly competitive - in part due to Fury's lazy preparation.
Paul didn't see the final bell despite Joshua looking casual, pulling punches and unwilling to put on the pressure and finish it until the final round or so.

This was the bigger mismatch in terms of ability... And yet finished more decisively.

    Ugly, yep.
    A crap fight, yep.

But let's not pretend that's Joshua taking it seriously and trying to get him out of there early - that doesn't fit at all with what we saw.

As a fighter, Jp was appalling and just running
Away and diving to the floor. The lack of action was clearly because AJ had little intensity, didn’t feel threatened like you do in a proper fight with a proper opponent, but was also under pressure to get a knock out. He was laughing at times in there because it was a joke of a situation for a high level fighter.

put usyk in with some joker fighter and he won’t be going for him like he’s Daniel Dubois he will probably be clowning about.

Joshua didn’t treat Jp like a real fighter because he isn’t one. Doesn’t mean it’s rigged etc,

I rate his balls for stepping in, but if you call yourself a fighter you have to go in to win.

if your going to run and dive all the match then go play footy or fight someone on your level. That was horrible to watch.
