I’ve said from the start I think they’re on a similar level which you refuse to accept which is odd considering

Rocky dominated his era at Heavy while being in the small side
You can’t name more than two cruisers in over 40 years of 200lb men that you might favour over him

You can’t name Floyd as favourite over any of the greats in his two best divisions, which are admittedly strong divisions.

How does all that equal Rocky is leagues below, because Floyd’s resume. Literally a paper argument

    Again, WTF??

    I haven’t chosen a fighter, because I don’t have to.

    Why?

    Because I AGREE with you.

I agree that Floyd couldn’t have beaten the best of all time at the weights he fought at.

    There’s too many great fighters.

So he’d have won some and lost some.

    That is only logical.

Now if you want to give me some SPECIFIC names, that’s okay.

But I didn’t feel the need to look closely, since again, I agreed with you.

Wait until you figure out his weight at the Olympics.

    Choose the names yourself.
I never said Rocky was better, I think they’re close and he’s my preference in this list.

If Rocky can dominate an era at heavy no matter how weak,(it wasn’t that bad), and we agree he’d be a dominant cruiser, how is that worse than Floyd probably not being favourite over the best lightweights and welters?

of course he’d win some, but that doesn’t put Floyd leagues above Rocky

    This is getting so tiresome.

Your behaviour has already cost us a great poster, who got tired of you.

They are not on a similar level.

    How can they be?

Anybody knows that Floyd had more ability, where he was greatly more skilled.

    You have no argument there.

You have then admitted that Floyd achieved more and has a better resume.

Again, he also had better longevity.

So Floyd has to rank higher.

Rocky dominated one weak division, where his best wins were against guys who weren’t even HW’s.

I can’t name more than two CW’s, because there has only been just TWO great standout CW’s within that period!

I could name Floyd as being a favourite over SOME of the guys.

But again, you are comparing a list of two fighters, to a list of about 20.

I never said that Rocky was leagues below.

I just said that under traditional ranking criteria, which I and others have used for decades, that Floyd has to rank higher.

Now you yourself agree with two parts of the criteria, and you’d be a fool to try and argue against the other ones, such as Floyd being more skilled technically, and having had better longevity.

WTF does that have to do with a hypothetical career in the era of same day weigh-ins??

    Are you serious here?

    1. How the FK are your comparisons in any way fair??

I’ll let you try and work it out.

    2. I never said Floyd was leagues above.

    3. If you don’t agree with my criteria, why?

Let’s see your objective criteria to rank these guys.

    Everyone knows? I don’t know
The poster above seems to favour Rocky too.

We already agreed neither Floyd or Rocky beat a great fighter in their primes.
They both were two of their best in fairly weak eras.
    They have almost identical records

How can they not be in a similar level ?

I’ve already said Floyd has better longevity !

‘More skilled’ is completely subjective as well. Every boxer has different skill sets. Rocky must have been skilled to be dominant in his era, like Floyd was. Rocky hit like a train too, relatively speaking his power shits on Floyd.
So that’s a huge offensive skill he has a massive advantage in isn’t it. He has the highest ko percentage, so there’s an advantage in his resume for Rocky

Your whole point is that Floyd is way ahead of Rocky, that they aren’t close, i disagree

The hypothetical default is that he’d fight over the same range since he wasn’t a weight cutter. He usually came in well below the limit for his 154 fights.

And he was a 126 in his late am career. So he’d probably have fought pro at 126 if he didn’t have the world class am career and turned pro early.

They cannot be at a similar level, when Floyd comes out on top of each factor, based upon criteria that has been used for decades.

I’m talking specifically about TECHNICAL skills. Not attributes. Technical boxing skills. Offensive and defensive. Floyd was a master technician. Rocky was a brawler.

Rocky was skilled to a degree, but again, he didn’t outbox guys. He ground down faded guys who’d been prime at lower weights, who had a ton of mileage. He didn’t out smart them. He overpowered them. And they were too small and faded to deal with him.

Yes, he has a high KO percentage. But again, it’s all about context. He wouldn’t have had that same percentage in other eras.

You have agreed with most of my criteria.

If you want to use different criteria, then do so.

But tell me why you’re using it and why you think it’s fair.

If you want to do that, we can.

I agree this is getting tiresome.

Mayweather wouldn’t have nearly as deep a resume in any other era, would have had to deal with much better fighters overall without silly catchweights and clauses, not been protected as a cash cow and not given gift judges and refs in his pocket.

We know this, but he only had 3 fights at JMW.

Just 3 fights out of 50.

We don’t need to use that as an example.

The fact is: He spent most of his actual career fighting above LW, and in the modern era.

That means that there’s nothing to suggest that he’d have fought for a prolonged period at LW back in an earlier era, and especially with a same day weigh-in.

Now you know that the same day weigh-ins are hugely significant.

Floyd’s absolute prime was between LW-LWW, and in the modern era.

Meaning that he’d have weighed about 140 pounds on fight night at LW, and over 140 pounds on fight night at LWW.

Weighing in at 135 pounds back then, would have been similar to a modern day SFW.

Him turning pro at 126 with a same day weigh-in, would have been like a FW in the modern era.

Floyd would not have been able to have fought for a prolonged period as an old 126 pound fighter, with a same day weigh-in.

    It’s not plausible.

If he’d been around in the 60’s and 70’s, he’d probably have been a WW. That’s far more realistic
