If you thought Usyk, Crawford or Inoue were the best of this generation, I'm not going to laugh. I prefer Crawford but unfortunately what's gone on, on paper, for all three of them, is not exactly like the talent pool of Floyd, Manny, SRL and Duran, and many others in past generation's discussion of greatest of their time. It just isn't. Look how bald someone like Fury was or how short Gamboa's arms looked. On paper, it's great, yeah, but in reality, someone like Spence has had issues of being from Texas and someone like Chisora is bisexual. I mean, no one ever heard of stuff like this when Duran was champion.

 

Define “this generation”.

usyk is realistically king at present, my fave is inoue but usyk has done things in the main division. How unfair that is, it’s just life.

pfp and taking weight out of the equation I actually think inoue, but that could be due to more activity, more names etc but then these are perks of being in lower weights,.. generally more active and more options on where to go

 

I have Usyk and Inoue ahead of him.

 

He has some great wins and achievements for sure, but if Inoue is included in the same generation I think it's too early to say yet.

Apart from that I have a hard time having him as better as Usyk. Crawford has himself said that he puts guys that are around his size as his ceiling for challenges. Usyk doesn't. He beat the best his size and also the best of the bigger guys. So for me his more proven.

 

Of course both Usyk and Inoue are part of the same generation. The latter won titles/became undisputed in the same year/month Bud did.

The real problem with Crawford's legacy, I suspect, is his last big victories will be looked upon similarly to Calzaghe's final two. We know Spence was probably - literally - damaged goods. And as for Canelo, now that the initial buzz has died down, what are we left with? The performance itself was great, but who was Canelo in '25? Was he actually the second best 168 pounder? If Benevidez had been given the chance, would he have won? If so, would Crawford have gone up? This is why I'm sceptical of those always banging the 'undisputed!' drum.

What had never been done before is indebted to a 'king' who blanked his most deserving rival.

Still a good win, but there we are.

 

If Usyk was American we wouldn't even be discussing this. it's clearly Usyk.

 

Can't really tell with his resume if he would have stayed at fought the Bivol jai and a few of the other guys it would have painted a better picture still Canelo is a good scalp

 

When I read this, and other forums, the majority of the posts are saying AJ isn't/wasn't ever all that, and Fury is a waste of space, not sentiments I agree with mind. But, regardless of how I feel about Usyk, for me his best two wins at heavyweight have been Fury 1 and AJ 2, closely followed by the dissection of big Dan twice. That version of Fury and that version of AJ would have beaten every other current heavyweight for me, so he beat the best of the rest at their best. But Usyk doesnt have a Frazier, a Liston, another ATG victory so I can't make him an ATG. Head to head? He's a nightmare. I suspect he'd give a headache a headache. But, a bit like some others on my head to head/top ten list he doesn't have those career defining fights...nor does he have career damaging loses or performances I concede that much, but for me he is a top head to head fighter because I think I know how good he is, but not on my ATG list because I don't know for sure.

 

I can't see the comparison with RJJ. Spence had unified the fight before and was seen as the best WW together with Crawford. Jones hadn't beat anybody good since losing to Tarver and Johnson and was seen as utterly washed up. Speence-Crawford was seen as very much a 50-50 going in.

It wasn't meant as an exact equivalent but rather to illustrate how each involved a compromised/aged fighter. I'd always favour Crawford over any version of Spence, but that's not the point.

 

Ricky Hatton resume is more impressive to me. He had more “big nights”, he lost 2 but he was going with the biggest threats at the time for a period.
Don’t know why I said Ricky out of the hundreds who have better resumes. Not many have as many accolades though
