jake for FIGHTER of the year? Uh, no. Want to give him promoter of the year? I won’t argue with that. He finally made AJ a thing in the US, even Eddie never pulled that off. Crawford has the best win of the year. Inoue the most active. Bam did dominate and stop two world champs in a one sided fashion, bring attention to a weight class not usually followed in the US; it wouldn’t be unfair to give it to him either.
Ironically, Adonis Stevenson was given the award in 2013 over Floyd Mayweather, the latter of whom had (like Crawford) beaten Canelo, while Stevenson (like Inoue) fought four times.
Jake had 14 fights in his life going into the AJ fight and was giving away obscene size, weight and reach advantages and an equally big advantage in experience vs a former 2 x three-belt unified HW champion. Whilst I do concede he came up short this time, it was perhaps the greatest event win in the history of sports and the fact he last 6 rounds and actually took AJ to slick school for a number of those rounds and landed some beautiful shots is beyond impressive and certainly far more impressive than Crawford beating a shot ginger oompa loomp with a much shorter reach who hadn't stopped anyone in 4 yeas. AJ was very dangerous murderous puncher who is bigger than Jake, that washed up shell version of Clenelo posed Crawford little threat And what Jake did vs AJ is way more impressive than Inoue bashing up 3 uber drivers and MJ in a fixed fight Re. AJ in the US. I think we all can agree that Jake would've schooled Fat Andy with his speed, movement and slickness
There you have it Floyd beat a way better version of Clenelo than Crawford did who was also much bigger than him, whereas, Crawford was the same size as Clenelo And Floyd also beat Roberto Guerrero that year too But they gave it to Adonis for beating Darnell Boone, Dawson, Cloud and Bellew that year
Frankly even if Inoue’s only fight this year had been the MJ win, that would’ve won him FOTY over Usyk’s single Dubois 2 win or Crawford’s single win over a shot Canelo imo (though you could still legitimately argue Crawford). The fact that Inoue defended his undisputed and lineal titles 4 times in a single calendar year is unprecedented for modern times, and I fail to see any argument for Inoue not winning FOTY.
Jake Paul? WTF are people mixing in their morning cocktails? Bizarro world... Crawford should win it.
Reminded me of Donaire FOTY in 2012. Beating out Marquez, Ward and other contendere with his 4 fight year
The only time since 2000 where a fighter won "Fighter of the Year" where they only fought once that year was Tyson Fury (Wilder 2 KO) & Teofimo Lopez (Lomachenko UD) who shared the award. I wouldn't be surprised if Inoue & Crawford shared the award. Crawford has never won a "Fighter of the Year" award.
I'm gonna give the man his dues and go Wardley. Pulled two huge upsets and secured a world title with zero amature background and bugger all pro-fights and appears to be game to fight anyone. Mad respect, even if I think he is rather limited and one bad match up from a devastating loss.
I'll be real. I'm of the firm belief that only people who hail from countries which are boxing superpowers like the tiny majestic isle of Great Britain, Mexico, Japan, Ukraine etc. should be allowed to have a vote on P4P rankings, rankings, end of year awards, awards etc. Hell, I'd probably even throw the US in there too as Puerto Rico is technically part of the US. Any voting panel when it comes to this type of things should always primarily consist of Brits given our rich and illustrious history and standing in the sport and as a Brit my vote this year goes to Oleksandr Usyk
For activity - Inoue. Who I voted for. For Win of The Year - Crawford. Who I predicted would beat Canelo. Bivol in 2nd place in this Category v Beterbiev (and I predicted this win, too).
