I think that Tommy rates higher than Terence.

Cuevas, Duran, Benitez, Hill and arguably Andries - valiant efforts against Leonard, all-time classic against Hagler - eclipse the fighters/historically significant performances on Bud's résumé.

Madrimov has more skill than Barkley despite his weak resume. Crawford would beat the crap out of Barkley, has lost to multiple worse fighters. He just happened to be a bad match up for Hearns

I know it's opinions but this is wild.

How can Floyd be the lowest of the four when his record significantly trumps Bud's?

I cannot see how Bud isn't the fourth ranked of the four.

He can rank higher than Tommy. Tommy lost his biggest fights by stoppage and also lost twice to Iran Barkley.

Crawford’s win over Canelo is better than Hearns’ win over the unproven Hill. Crawford was giving up size to Madrimov, Spence, and Porter and still beat them, two by beatdown. Hearns was naturally bigger than Duran and Benitez.

Plus the 140 and 135 titles for Crawford including the very good wins over Gamboa and Postol.

I honestly can’t see how Hearns is above Crawford.

    It doesn’t matter.

    It wasn’t a direct comparison.

    We’ve seen it all before.

    All throughout history.

Anybody can be a bad stylistic match up for somebody.

A prime Barkley was nowhere near as skilled as Hearns.

He also had nowhere near the skills of a prime version of Michael Nunn.

Yet we saw what happened in those 3 fights.

Madramov isn’t on another level to Canelo, but it was a much easier fight for Terence against Canelo, as Madramov pressured him a lot more than what Canelo did.

    It’s just styles.

Now we’ve simply never seen Terence fight a Barkley up at MW.

    Never.

Just because he beat Canelo at SMW, it doesn’t mean that he could beat everyone at JMW-MW.

There’s many guys that could have been problematic to him.

I can remember people on this very forum scoffing at the match up between Floyd and Maidana.

I can remember many people referencing the Arturo Gatti fight beforehand.

    Yet nobody said that afterwards.

Bud never lost a title fight, Hearns did., quite a bit so he's bottom of the 4 for me although H2H he probably beats Bud, he arguably beat SRL second time and I'd fancy him to catch Floyd at some point.

As for Bud being above Floyd. Floyd won titles from 130-154, Bud 135-168 a lot bigger range, and I like Buds style better and be comes over as a nicer bloke. It deisbt make me right or wrong. Just how I see it and validate it.

I agree he'll rank higher H2H than on an ATG list.

I don't rank fighters from an all time historical perspective until at least a few years after they've retired. It allows the dust to settle, the remainder of the careers of their key opponents (and their opponents key opponents) to unfold and time for perspective. So, I'm neither arguing for nor against Crawford at this stage. All I'll state with confidence, at this point, is:

    1. Even with time for perspective, he clearly doesn't have the resume for top 20 p4p all time.

    2. He will rate higher from a histroical perspective on this site, or similar sites, in 20 years time, than he would today.

I actully think there's recency bias against the Spence and Canelo wins. Spence had done a good job of cleaning out most of the rest of the division, and Crawford destroyed him. Duran had no such status at 154 and neither had Cuevas at 147.

Canelo was p4p ranked and Bud had to climb higher than Hearns had for Hill, so that's easily the better win of the two for me.

After the fact these wins are treated a bit like he feasted on damages goods, but that was not how they were seen going in.

The win over Benitez is the one I'd have around the same as the wins over Spence and Canelo, but overall for top wins it's Bud for me.

Bud has been active in an era where fighters in general rehydrate a lot after weigh in. I doubt Spence is smaller than him for example and Porter was a MW as an amateur. He will have had a higher walk around weight than some other opponents, but I don't understand the talk of cheating when someone is following the rules.

And Hearns had fights at MW before he went down to 154, and at 175 before he wente back down to MW - so I have an even harder time time to see how this "cheating" didn't apply to him in that case. He was naturally, or whatever you want to call it, the same size as Benitez and Durran? Come on.
