What was the last fight to go more than 20 rounds?

I was under the impression Max Baer had a fight scheduled for 20

 

He and King Levinsky fought for 20 in 1932 but the question is for a fight OVER 20.

 

Joe Louis had 2 fights scheduled for 20 rounds, Abe Simon 1 and Bob Pastor 2.

 

Amazingly enough Paulino Uzcudun outpointed Baer over 20 rounds in 1931.

Wow so not really that long back in to the mists of time.
Expected something like the 40 s perhaps.

 

I keep files of HW, LHW and MW title fights and the last HW 20 rounder on my list is Louis v Abe Simon(1941) the last LHW one is McTigue v Siki(1923) and the last MW one is Mickey Walker v Milligan(1927). Of these McTigue v Sikis the only one that actually went the distance.

Beyond 20? At HW its Willard v Jack Johnson(1915, 45 rounds) at LHW its Wild Bill Hanrahan v Marvin Hart(1901, 25 rounds) and at MW its Papke v Ketchel at 25(1909, 25 rounds). In 1908 there was Ketchel v Jack Twin Sullivan which was a 35 rounder. None of these fights went the distance. Which was sort of the point.

20 round decisions seem much more common then even 25. Despite a decentish number of planned 25 rounders the only 25 round+ decisions I see listed are Jeffries v Tom Sharkey and Kaufman v Twin Sullivan. This doesn't count Peter Jackson and Corbett which wasn't truly 61 rounds over half that fight was the fighters awkwardly hinting to the referee they couldn't fight anymore.

 

I would happily fight Jake Paul in a scheduled 150-rounder if I could get one of those Tyson/AJ type purses.

Hell, I’m a generous guy … I’d do it for half that.

I dunno if I would beat him — I’m older now but working out at the boxing gym regularly, but back in the day I did manage to last a round sparring with Pinklon Thomas, so I figure I could survive longer than that with Jake, haha.

 

Years after it became impossible in the US, you still got the occasional finish fight scheduled in Mexico. A notable example being Mercy Montes's 51-round win over Jimmy Dundee for the Mexican lightweight title in 1923.
