Bruno's early power up against Norton's awkward pressure and body work? My opinion, if Frank doesn't score early then Norton drags him in to deep waters. How high a risk is this bout for both ?
I think Frank bangs him out. Norton might be the more skilled fighter but Frank's attributes are all wrong for Kenny. Busts him up with that jab and stops him before the 6th.
I like this match up,Fergy. Frank has the power to bomb Ken out early but unlike Foreman,Shavers and Cooney the British fighter did n't possess the looseness of the others mentioned but a certain rigidity that made him stiffen up against the elite boxers. If Frank can't get him early I back Ken to weather an early storm to take an exhausted Bruno out at some point after the halfway mark.
Norton can't beat power punchers unless they're fringe contenders like Mike Weaver or something. Norton has a glass chin
Hello. I would n't class a chin whose owner was n't knocked down even once in a grand total of 54 rounds against Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes. Muhammad and Larry may not have possessed one punch kayo power like a Foreman or a Shavers but they hit Ken solidly enough and plenty of times. Ken's weakness against big bangers was n't his chin but his susceptibity to not being effective if being forced backwards. The Norton chin may not have been quite as tough as an Ali,Leonard or a Hagler's but it was n't glass either.
Mike Weaver had a better career than Frank Bruno so that's a bit of a baffling comment TBH. I wouldn't say Norton had a glass chin either but a certain level of puncher can certainly get him out of there. Bruno certainly has the power to get Norton out of there but Norton also has enough power to get Bruno out of there aswell. Both fighters had poor recuperative powers when hurt also. So whilst Bruno is a puncher it's certainly not a formality he beats Norton.
While Bruno certainly has the power to take Kenny out of there, I think he lacks a bit of the animalistic aggression of the guys that knocked Norton out. I just don't see him backing Kenny up enough to offset Norton's offense. Norton by late TKO.
That was early in his career. Weaver peaked in 1979 after a great battle vs Larry Holmes. And then he won the belt and become a number 1 ranked Heavyweight for 2 years. Weaver was also a big puncher and if weathered the early storm of Bruno he could just as easily stop Bruno in the 2nd half of the fight.
Bruno should go out and pounce right on Norton like Shavers did. That's his best hope. The longer it goes on, the more I like Norton.
Bruno has to do a Coetzee on Norton, but I can't see that happening really. But yes, that's his best chance.
