Seems legit. Usyk will continue to duck top contenders. Wilder, then Ruiz and then he can fight Klitschko for what it's worth.
I wouldn't mind a 3rd fight with Fury since both fights were competitive. A Ruiz fight could be kinda interesting if Ruiz gets in good shape and also scores a decent win vs a top 15 guy as a "warm up". But Wilder? I'd rather see Usyk face Ngannou to prove that he can do better than Fury against him as a pure boxer.
Insane how many people want to see Usyk fighting with broken down guys just for the “name” and avoid deserving contenders.
Fury needs to beat someone in the top 10 to get the shot at Usyk. He hasn't beaten a boxer for over 3 years.
I don't want to see any of these fights neither Wilder or Ruiz are top 10 rated Heavyweights and neither are relevant Heavyweights anymore. I know Usyk is well liked and deservedly so but why would anyone who's a fan of the sport want to see these fights ? People keep saying "Usyk deserves easy fights" and again I have no issue with a gimme fight here and there. But the issue is Usyk and Heavyweights in general are not that active in this era. So realistically the best Heavyweight in the world will be having 2 gimme fights over a period of 2 years. In the older eras champions had gimme fights but they were also very active which is different to today's era. So as a fan of the sport I'd be disappointed if for the next 2 years Usyk fought 2 irrelevant Heavyweights who are not top 10 rated Heavyweights.
"Usyk has nothing to prove and owes nobody nothing". It'd be one thing if was one person dropping that line but its a common talking point.
Guess the Usyk era is over and he's just going to slowly drop the belts whilst pursuing meaningless fights, rather than just retiring at the top or continuing to fight the best!?
I would rather see them have a hot dog eating contest. It would be more entertaining and more important to the world of boxing.
If Usyk wants to fight Windmill and the obese mexican then that's up to him but he should have to drop the belts to do so since neither are ranked other than Windmill at #13 by We Be Clowns.
He's dropped one already. I make the case that he should drop the WBC because Kabayel deserves his chance, and he should drop the WBA simply because his old cruiser rival is now the "regular" champ and would presumably be elevated, thus giving that win a little retro-active cache. But the point is, he does seem to be reducing the titles.
I'm a Usyk fan and I agree with this. If it's one fight with Wilder I am okay with. If it is additional fights against non-ranked boxers I have a problem with it. Usyk should beat the top contenders (which he probably could) and call it a career. Top Contenders Kabayel Wardley Itauma Okolie (Maybe)
You go hype up usyk collecting the names of has-beens with their previous big successes in the 2010's... "Oh it will look good on his resume having beat a few shot fighters from 2018" (Boxrec shows their record and recent win-lose ratio btw) I don't know who actually wants to PAY for usyk wilder and usyk ruiz, though. And if usyk is cutting ties with the sheik because he wants to make the fights with wardley and kabayel, you can guess which side an actual boxing fan is on. If he doesn't want to take on his challengers, usyk needs to be stripped. No matter his accomplishments in the past. These are titles that are earned again and again. This is not a hierarchy based on privilege however it was earned earlier. It's not like someone accumulating money and power. He did that and can continue to do so and keep it forever. But he has to defend the titles if he wants to keep them! Otherwise why would klitschko have fought fury? Why lewis against vitali? I heard holmes avoided all challenges for a long time. You want that? Usyk can be champion until he is 50 if you let him choose his opponents
