Peak De La Hoya Versus Peak Crawford

Crawford would keep him at length and outbox him. De La Hoya doesn’t get enough length on his punches to have success at range, and Crawford has enough power to gain De La Hoya’s respect, and he has a good enough defence to neutralise him up close.

 

Great fight. I like Oscar at 135 - 154. Bud at 160.

Good fight. Bud didn't have the easiest time againt Benavidez, who fought him in similar way that Oscar could probably be expected to fight him - although bringing far more quality (and two healthy legs).
I think both could win on their day. Maybe lean to Crawford since He had his best performances in his biggest fights, while Oscar could often underperform and not give his best.

 

Prime Oscar was a bad man, that fought everyone in a much deeper era. Compare the names on their resume.

Crawford UD, maybe a late stoppage. ODLH would get out to a good start since Bud's a slow starter and likes to take his time to figure his man out. But once he starts taking that jab away, Oscar would be in trouble. Oscar had gas tank problems his whole career, and Crawford gets stronger the longer a fight goes. Bud is more skilled, meaner, and better conditioned than Oscar. I just don't think Oscar would have much chance of beating Crawford for as great a fighter as he was.

I asked myself - how would Oscar do going through Bud's resume, and between 135-154, I could not think of one name that would give him the slightest issues. I think He would breeze through it.

Only moving up to 168 to fight Canelo is something He would not likely be able to pull off - since He didn't carry the weight well above 154.

 

I grew up a big fan of De La Hoya but I struggle with him in hypothetical match ups. I feel like his tendency to fade in 12 round fights and his lack of a great right hand hamper him a little. He has a great left hook and jab and takes a punch well but I feel like he is missing components to get over the top in a lot of these fights

 

I love Crawford but it might, *might* prove a rude awakening on his abilities and physicality if he had to face the same Quartey, Mosley or Trinidad, and there's a pretty decent chance that he winds up with significantly worse results than the controversial ones ODLH got. That said, I suspect that this match would produce...another of those same controversial types of decisions that we'd all argue about forever.

 

Benavidez gave Crawford a good fight and De La Hoya is much better, but then again Crawford just has that extra gear. Crawford by close decision
