Naw. Gassiev's cruiserweight resume is stellar. He already has a legacy that buries Wilder's. He is finally injury free and is ready to make a good heavy run. We will see how he finishes relative to Haye. Itauma doesn't want the smoke. Although no one has mentioned it, I have a feeling he will get someone like Andy Ruiz or Chisora next...a name people know.

"He already has a legacy that buries Wilder's"

Absolutely not. Wilder's the most notable American HW since 90's Holyfield, Gassiev was the 3rd most accomplished cruiserweight of Usyk's era but probably not the 3rd best.

The people he beat at cruiser have a high historical standing. It isn't even even close. Gassiev already has a place in history. Wilder...no.

I am reminded of a poyim by William Shakespeare.

"To me, fair friend, you never can be old,
For as you were when first your eye I eyed,
Such seems your beauty still. Three winters cold
Have from the forests shook three summers’ pride,
Three beauteous springs to yellow autumn turned
In process of the seasons have I seen,
Three April perfumes in three hot Junes burned,
Since first I saw you fresh, which yet are green.
Ah, yet doth beauty, like a dial-hand,
    Steal from his figure, and no pace perceived;
So your sweet hue, which methinks still doth stand,
Hath motion, and mine eye may be deceived:
For fear of which, hear this, thou age unbred:
Ere you were born was beauty’s summer dead."

This is from a sonnet called Lick My Love Pump. What I am saying is I basically feel like they're both still in their prime.

Would be a good fight and would at least give a shred of relevancy and respectability to Usyk vs Wilder should Wilder beat Gassiev comprehensively.

Personally though I doubt it happens. Too risky for Wilder.

Could have swore that was a collaboration with Nigel Tuffnel.

Cruiser doesn't have a high historical standing though, what you do at HW counts for a lot more. So far, Gassiev's best HW win is 44 year old Pulev, he's lost to fringe contender Wallin and was shut out by Usyk.

Wilder has 10 consecutive HW defences, the KO mythos, Fury trilogy and prominence in America. He'll definitely get in the HoF, maybe 1st ballot. Gassiev certainly won't.
