It can't be considered a great resume with only 7 ranked opponents beaten. Roy Jones by my count beat 14, Mayweather 18 Even Tyson had 10. Had he retired in 1989 he would have beaten more ranked opponents than Usyk
14 ranked opponents. 11 of them fellow titlists. He started in cruiser. And before you start crying about "he's not great at heavyweight," you can say he's a great heavyweight, or he's a great pound for pound that beat the best heavyweights of his day. A distinction without a difference. Whichever makes you happy.
Ring magazine ranked only 7. Glowacki Huck Breidis Gassiev Joshua Fury Dubois If we are include Bellew that brings it up to 8 Mike Tyson circa 1989 objectively had a comparable or superior resume
Oh, the rIng magazine garbage again. Ring magazine is a magazine. Their ranks are meaningless. If a fighter wants to collect and defend titles, they have to go by the ratings organizations. And certainly. Joshua, Fury and Dubois were all Ring ranked for both fights, anyway, so even by your garbage metric, it should be more fights.
Love it when you throw down the gauntlet. It sure is a sight to see. Yeah I see Usyk comfortably beating Lennox. But prime for prime I think Iron Mike causes him severe problems, but it would be one hell of a fight to witness.
Common sense tells us those were the only guys Usyk beat who have a reasonable case for being top 10. And it seems suspect to give a guy credit for beating the same guys over and over Mike Tyson presumably wouldn't surpass Ali if he beat Frank Bruno 100 times giving him 100 wins over ranked opponents.
Tyson resume vs Usyk resume Tucker vs Fury Williams vs Glowacki Thomas vs Huck Smith vs Breidis Bruno vs Joshua Berbick vs Dubois Old Holmes vs Gassiev Spinks vs Bellew Seems pretty similar
Lol. No such thing is true. Brieidis- contemporary cruiserweight champ Glowacki- contemporary cruiserweight champ Gassiev- Contemporary cruiserweight champ Huck- Former cruiserweight champ, ranked according to you Bellew- emeritas cruiserweight champ, coming back down from good heavyweight run Hunter- won and eliminator for shot Joshua- heavyweight champ Joshua II- one fight removed from heavyweight championship Dubois 1- WBA "regualr," effectively #1 contender Fury- Contemporary heavyweight champ Fury II- One fight removed from championship Dubois II- IBF champion There are two others worth adding Chisora- I believe he was ranked by one ratings organization at the time. I have to check. Mchunu- was not ranked by the IBF, WBA, or WBO...I can'k check WBC past ratings. He quite possibly was as he is a future title challenger of theirs. I am not claiming it, though because I don't know, only that it was a quality challenger. So that is about 12-14 "ranked" fighters.
I don't understand Usyk. On one hand he says that he will fight until 41. Then he says he only has 2-3 fights left. So that's like 1 fight per year. He can definitely fight more than once per year especially if it's against Wilder who he should get out of there in the 1st half of the fight. To me he could probably have 4-6 more fights and still make a lot of money and go out on top (possibly being fighter of the decade) and securing his legacy.
Using that type of criteria would dramatically increase the number of ranked opponents for lots of fighters though so it doesn't help Usyk. Roy Jones probably would have 20,25+ plus ranked opponents if we go by that criteria. Alex Stewart who I have never seen cited by anyone as a big win for Tyson shockingly had a high rating with several sanctioning bodies. Anyway you look at it, Usyks resume lacks depth by historical standards which is expected given how infrequently he fights.
Upon inspection things get even more ridiculous for Tyson if you use the ratings of sanctioning bodies Even Marvis Frazier was ranked in the top 10 by multiple organizations despite people generally not viewing it as an impressive win for him. One would never guess given how the win is totally ignored today.
cry about it he’s the man and he can do what he wants You act like he’s the first HW champ of the world to not pick an easy fight guess when you just started following boxing 4 days ago, this is what happens
