Fury fast approaching a sad end to his career

I still say that if his head was screwed on straight and if he had the fire of a Holyfield or a Wlad under his ass he could have ruled this boxing era.

Instead he ruled the local Scran's breakfast menu with an iron fist.

 

Tyson Fury at 37 is probably the equivalent of an average champion coming back at 52 years old, in terms of how far he must have declined physically over the years. So, any success he has, really depends on how he's matched and how much ability he started off from.

He has everything many men would dream of. A great wife, a great family, enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his life. It would be a tragedy for them to see husband/father punched into early dementia.

 

If Wlad or Holyfield had the focus on one goal from birth and a family in boxing, they could have done even better.

there are few fighters who have been as privileged as Tyson fury to had their whole lives nurtured and focused to only be a fighter.

 

Usyk has been effectively stripped of a title twice now.

 

I don't mind him coming back and taking some good fights.

I don't mind if he loses some of them, either, that might see the hype die down a little bit...


What I really don't want to see is a long "comeback" trail fighting nobodies, whilst screaming that he's desperate for the big fights and big purses - which never come, possibly because he doesn't really want them.
He mustn't be allowed to hoover up all the available attention.

 

He dropped the IBF only to fight the winner straight afterwards, then recently dropped the WBO so he could fight Wilder. He was given plenty of time to defend both and actively chose not to.

 

The dropped because otherwise he would have been stripped. My point was the the orgs themselves have been rather strict with him, or at least somewhat strict.
Usyk not fighting the top contenders right now has little to do with the WBO, IBF, WBC or the WBA.

 

You might make that argument for the IBF, but the WBO gave him an extension.

Usyk only fights once a year on average. How long do you expect the division to wait? It's not really good enough and he should be called out on it.

 

I cant believe you are making me defend the ABC´s here. The extension was meaningless because Usyk did not intend to fight Wardley, regardless of how much time the WBO gave him.
On paper Usyk vacated the IBF and WBO belts, but in reality it was because he did not want to face the mandatories.

Usyk is 100% in the wrong here, and I am not defending him. The WBC should grow balls and enforce their mandatory too.

 

I might be confused by your point then. I agree, WBC should but they won't.

 

Holyfield got into boxing when he was 8, took it seriously, had a mother who was very encouraging and supportive. He maximized what he could have accomplished. He's not a what if.

I guess it's not quite the Floyd Mayweather situation, but it's still far better than most get.

 

It’s not the Tyson fury situation. My point was he still started later than fury started, his dad wasn’t a pro boxer and his family into boxing as careers, his mum may have supported him but she didn’t have contacts in the sport or inside knowledge of it…like fury and Floyd got heaps of. Holyfield chose to be a fighter, Floyd and fury were raised as fighters with their families guiding their learning and careers.

I’m not criticising them for it, they have had a privilege which many would wish for and good on them for making the most of it and not wasting it all.
But let’s not pretend fury has had it hard, or been disadvantaged.

He also had HGH delivered to his house under the name "Evan Fields."

He benefited very greatly from fighting in an era when you could get away with taking HGH. He would not have done nearly so well in any other era.

And he got away with the headbutt/nutsackblast combo more times than it seems possible.

 

He ducked, Wlad, AJ and then Usyk for almost a decade in total. What a complete waste of time.
