Greater fighter: Kostya Tszyu or Donald Curry

Outside of Starling his best wins are Milton McCrory, Colin Jones, Nino LaRocca and Lupe Aquíno.

 

McCrory is a good win I believe not familiar with the others. Still seems Tszyu has the edge for me.

 

Curry fit an archetype that the American eye appreciates. Tszyu actually did better in the real world. Sometimes physical assets trump form boxing, especially in the pro ranks.

 

Sucker for a rt hand his entire career. Big fan of both. I Stand by my opinion

 

To me, Curry is the far superior fighter, and would knock out Tszyu.

Resumes are kind of close but I favor Curry.

 

Strictly resume wise i don't think there's miles between them. Curry was super dominant for a couple of years, his rematch win over peak Starling is a whole lot better than most realize. He beat various styles too. His trouble is once he lost his form dipped alarmingly and never came back. It took KT 8 years to lose his second fight. So resume wise i don't think there's really that much between them at all.

In the ring, well i personally think Curry performed at an ATG level from Stafford thru to McCrory. After he copped a beating he was done, tho he did show some brilliant form before getting one punched by McCallum. That was all she wrote. KT was an extremely good fighter but he didn't reach Curry's lofty heights in the ring.

 

I'd take Rosi over all of those guys, with the possible exception of McCrory. And Curry was badly fading and fighting over his best weight when he dropped Rosi five or six times, whatever it was, in Italy, while getting fouled relentlessly. Very underrated win for Curry.

 

You're a borderline casual sounds like to me. Tszyu has a grand total of one win over a quality fighter in their prime -- Judah. Thats it. Just for a stretch I'll also give you Sharma Mitchell and Hurtado, but these are merely "good" fighters.

MAG was past his prime, a prime that occurred at 135, and Chavez was beyond shot.

Colin Jones was one of the biggest welterweight punchers of the 80s, and LaRocca was an excellent pure boxer. Then you add in Starling, McCrory, and Rossi at 154, and its quite lopsided in Curry's favor. And allllll those guys were at their peaks when Curry beat them.

Perhaps actually do some research on Curry and his resume before drawing conclusions based simply on Boxrec searches where you're probably like, "Oh, I recognize these names, Tszyu must be greater."

 

Oh, if it's one thing this forum has taught me, it's that every answer...is the wrongest answer.

 

I pray that you're joking, I really do. There isn't a single quality welterweight I would pick Tszyu to beat. The only time he faced a big junior welter who had competed at 147 was Philips, and yeeaahh.. we saw how that worked out for him.

Prime Curry would assault Tszyu.

 

Robert, you and I are on the same page. Like you, big fan of both and regarding your comment on Tszyu's chink in the armor, If one watches his fight with Vince Phillips, one can see - as you said - a sucker for Phillips' right hand. I noted when I watched that fight my amazement that over the span of a lengthy amateur career, he wasn't able to correct that. Watch again his later fight with Jesse James Leija. Although he won, he falls prey to the same right hand over and over. A glaring fault he was never able to correct. Curry would exploit that comprehensively.

 

Curry has the better resume but more flaky results. Depends what you like I guess, but at the peaks of their careers, Curry was doing more impressive things in boxing, and looking better against better fighters.

Colin Jones was a very good fighter from Wales.He held McCrory to a draw in their first fight and only lost the rematch on a split decision

 

Forgot to add Rosi but yes you're right. That was a very underrated win and the last good win for Curry at that stage of his career.
