He would still lose to Leonard and Hearns though.

What else would he do during the same time line to distinguish himself and exceed Benitez's honours given the same timelines and opportunities?

The logic is very simple: I do not credit Leonard's wins.
    Benitez was a coke addict.
Hearns was beating him until he gassed out. Which means Leonard simply won cause of superior stamina, not superior skill. Hearns also won their 2nd fight, but was robbed by the judges.
Duran was smaller, a LW, yet he beat Leonard. Leonard pushed for a rematch when he knew Duran was fat.
Hagler was robbed. Leonard's tappy tap flurries at the end of rounds don't mean **** to me, this ain't the amateurs, a punch must do damage.

If you're going to do this then ...

Frazier only beat Ali cos he was coming back from 3.5 years out of the ring.
Tyson only beat Holmes cos he was long past his prime and returning looking flabby and sick; he only beat Spinks cos he had a bum knee and was scared; he only beat half the fighters in the 80s cos they were doped up.

Most of your reasoning is personal bias and doesn't stand up.

Hearns was winning their fight until Leonard changed strategy and went to the body and broke him down. Leonard having superior stamina and punch resistance isn't an asset or skillset that you can remove like a Jenga piece. It's part and parcel of what made their fight.

Leonard asked for the rematch he was entitled to - it was Duran's fault that he got fat, it wasn't Leonard stuffing his face. Part of being a fighter is staying ready so you don't have to get ready - if Duran wasn't in shape and felt compromised, he could've delayed but he chose not to. He disrespected himself as a professional - Leonard took advantage - it's crazy to blame Leonard for Duran's recklessness.

Fights aren't scored based solely on which punches did the most damage - it's done on ring generalship, defence, effective aggression and scoring punches on a round by round basis. If Leonard is landing pitty patty punches that Hagler wasn't able to walk through btw, then it's up to Hagler to deal with that.

The fight has been argued ad nauseam - it was a close fight. When they're that close, depends on what you're looking for - it wasn't a robbery. Oscar - Tito was a robbery - Pete and JCC was a closer robbery, but guess what, Oscar took rounds off and could've made it inarguable by maintaining the same output. Hags took rounds off at the start of the fight - made it closer than what it needed to be. Robbery is too strong a word here.

No..... at their best, Benitez was head and shoulders a better boxers. Benitez had the better jab, defense, footwork, counterpunching, and was actually better at fighting at all ranges. If Lara could do a number on Canelo, I can only imagine what Benitez would do to him H2H

If you're going to do this to Leonard, then you have to do the same to Crawford.

Postol - Was overrated and lost every big fight afterwards.
Horn: Got a gift vs Manny and lost every big fight after.
    Benavidez: Fought on one leg
Khan: Past his prime and got Kod by everyone previously
    Brook: Past his best.
Porter: Lost every big fight and was contemplating retirement before.
Spence: had been through two accidents and severely weight drained.
Madrimov: A nobody who many felt defeated Crawford. I personally gave Crawford the edge 7-5 but could see a draw.
Canelo: Hasn't looked great sense losing to Bivol. His bout before Crawford showed a diminish fighter. And Argument could be made that Canelo lost 2x to GGG, Lara, and Trout.

Likely - also not likely beating Cervantes at 17 - swings and roundabouts.

Not according to the main poster who asked to rank the fighters and never mentioned favourites, JT.
