Oleksandr Usyk or Mike Tyson - who's the Greatest of the two?

You’re a piece of **** Gen Z weasel. I didn’t factor in Fury fighting to his level and completely underestimating Ngannou. The Fury who showed up against Ngannou gets blitzed out by Wilder. The Fury who showed up against Usyk was the most motivated Fury we ve seen that was trying to prove a point.

 

Holmes and Spinks? You've got be ****ing joking? Holmes was past it and that's the guy Spinks beat. Yes both historically great fighters, Spinks at light heavyweight but they weren't much chop when Tyson beat them. Meanwhile Usyk goes through prime, top level opposition at cruiser, each and everyone of them, in their own backyard.

 

Holmes & Spinks had over 100 combined fights and 30+ world title fights they're ATG fighters and Tyson is only fighter to stop both fighters.

Yes Holmes was past his prime but still fought on for a decade without being stopped. Tyson is the only fighter to stop Holmes who had over 70+ fights that is significant.

Spinks was lineal Heavyweight champion his fight vs Tyson would've been the equivalent of Usyk/Fury in the modern era. A smaller ATG fighter moving up to Heavyweight in a big Heavyweight showdown its a very significant win.

We're not on about Cruiserweight ? I've already said Usyk ranks higher than Tyson combining both his achievements at Cruiserweight/Heavyweight.

I'm talking strictly about Heavyweight rankings.

 

Well, I'm adhering to the title of the thread in which the word heavyweight does not appear. Tyson spent his complete career at heavyweight so it's an unfair argument really. Usyk fought a number of cruiserweights who were significantly more dangerous opponents than he Holmes or Spinks that Tyson fought.

 

I don't agree.

Holmes went on to school a prime Mercer and have a very competitive fight vs a prime Holyfield. Not to mention came within 1 point of dethroning McCall at age 45 he still had alot left.

Spinks would beat most of Usyk's Cruiserweight opposition if he fought at that weightclass.

 

Are those Tysons two best wins at heavyweight?

 

Old Holmes, Spinks, Thomas, Tucker, Ruddock, Tubbs, Smith, Bruno, Golota, Williams, Berbick

Here's a question, where do you think Usyks wins over aj and Dubois rank if they were on this list ?

 

Aj at the time with the possible exception of Ruddock, trumps all those wins. In reality many of those US heavyweights of the 80's and 90's are Charles Martin level and I would rank the Dubois win the same.

 

For their historic standing ? Some people may have them as top 2.

Others might have Tony Tucker up there.

For me it's more of Tyson's dominance of good/solid fighters during his reign in the 80s which is why I rate his reign highly. How many other Heavyweights in history dominated like that ? Whilst barely losing a round ?

The run Tyson had in the 80s gets overrated by casuals but I also think sometimes it gets undervalued by hardcore boxing fans aswell.

10 world title wins with 8 stoppages in 3 years and going 37-0 with 33 stoppages in 5 years is impressive.

It doesn't trump smashing an unbeaten Spinks who dethroned Holmes, and doing it in 30 seconds for the undisputed crown.
im gonna say it, an old 38 year old Larry Holmes is h2h better than prime joshua.

All of them would smash Martin to pieces, James Smith is no worse than Joe Joyce, and Joyce knocked Dubois out. How can you tell me this era is that much stronger than the 80s when an old ass Chisora who is worse than Mike Weaver, a 40 yr old 1-2 Pulev who has no power, a 40 year old Povetkin, the slowest easiest to hit heavyweight in history Joyce and a very limited Wilder were able to compete with the top guys. It makes no logical sense. Even technique wise Martin looks crap compared to those guys

 

You're misquoting me now. OK, list the accomplishments of THE 38 year old Holmes, as in what he did in his 38th year v a prime Anthony Johsua?

 

It's a good argument you make, problem measuring Usyk v Tyson at heavyweight is that Tyson spent his whole career there and on paper you are probably correct.

 

Tyson usually fought more than once a year too.

 

Joshua got knocked out by Ruiz, won the rematch in a snoozefest and then bullied a 40 year old Pulev, those were his recent accomplishments. Old Holmes would beat Ruiz and Pulev because they are no better than Mercer. I'd put McCall above Ruiz

 

Yeah, I don't think you guys are wrong. I think Usyk is a greater fighter but as far as overall resume at heavyweight, Tyson had his whole career at the weight. @Dynamicpuncher made a lot of good points. I actually think that Holmes is probably the most underrated heavyweight of all time but I actually rate Tyson's wins against Bruno as perhaps his two best wins. For sheer in ring, viciousness.
