That is a hot take… I always felt Robinson could deliver just as devastating a shot on Duran as Hearns however that fight had it not happened would have a lot of differing opinions (I think Duran could’ve won) it had the air of an aberration to me.

Based on the thread titled Harry Greb Footage, it wasn't until the 20th century that he was started to be considered great. This theory is based on numerous shows, books and articles that listed the best MW, SMW, LHW and HW and he's never mentioned as top ten in any of thise divisions yet he's ranked as an ATG by observers who have NEVER SEEN FOOTAGE OF ANY OF HIS FIGHTS.

I know he was a bit past it, but in the Basilio bout there are some strategies shown working against Robinson on a stylistic level that imo Duran would absolutely pull off better than him. I've been thinking of writing a long 'devil's advocate' post as a thought experiment.

I’d really like to see it, you know your boxing and I like to read what you’ve got to say, I’m not a Duran scholar so it’d be good for me - oh what’s my line again… “Big” James blah blah blah Foreman bad etc.

I actually agree styles make fights example Ali lost to Norton and Frazier but no calls Frazier and Norton the greatest the truth is every dog has its day and if you fight long enough your bound to lose

I have always argued he was and is criminally overlooked.
I mean he beat some very good boxers that were highly skilled.

Virgil Hill is very underrated and had an impressive career with just a great jab and movement.

Zab could have gone so much further if he would have been more defensive minded.

Sweet Pea would have beaten Duran.

Oscar would have beaten Winky if they met.
James Page at one time was the hardest puncher in the welterweight division.
Michael Nunn if not side tracked could have been one of the greatest middle weights of all time.
Rocchigianni was better then both Maske and Darius.

Both Ali/Liston fights were fixed. There was no money to be made with Liston. The fans didn't want an ex-convict for champion and he had no charm or charisma. Television was taking over boxing and they needed someone who could get ratings and sponsors. Ali would go on to receive several more gift decisions in his career (Norton x2, Young, and Shavers).

Floyd Mayweather was juicing for nearly his entire career. Allegations of sealed docs regarding illegal injections for his hands and his illegal IV on the eve of the biggest fight of his life are smoking guns. His alliance with USADA was a perfect cover for his campaign to clean up boxing. He had never demanded blood testing prior to the demand for a fight with Manny. He got at least 3 gift decisions versus Castillo I, Oscar and Maidana I and his fight with Manny should have been a draw. He ducked close to a dozen fighters in his career and never fought an elite level opponent at their best.

Hopkins is highly overrated. He hid out at 160 while padding his title defense record against no-hopers and journeymen. He avoided a rematch at 168 with Jones while Roy was still prime. He was a boring, dirty fighter.

Jack Johnson's best wins were much smaller or washed up. McVey and Jeannette were novices when they fought him. Highly overrated.

Armstrong being champion in three weight classes simultaneously requires a deep dive and further scrutiny. He won his featherweight title from a washed up, feather-fisted opponent and then never defended the title. Won his welter title from washed up Ross, defended it against a long list of past-prime or never-was opponents. Won his lightweight title in a close and controversial split decision full of fouls for which he was penalized. Only defended title once to same opponent and lost.

Wlad gets knocked out in every other era of HW division all the way back to Dempsey era.

Louis has one of the most unimpressive title runs.
