Yes his speed would be a problem. Gave Bowe all the trouble he could handle would do the same to Lewis.
Yes can see Tubbs making it interesting for a while, but Lewis taking over the later rounds and getting a decision . If Lewis doesn't take him seriously then he might find him self behind on the cards.
Tubbs was a bit chinny I can't see him lasting the distance with Lewis. Tubbs probably does trouble Lewis with his handspeed and movement but he gets taken out at some point in the 2nd half of the fight.
Wouldn't call him Chinny really, tho he did look vulnerable at time's. How often did he actually get dropped, I'm not sure?
He's been stopped in the opening round twice in his career. Tyson stopped him in 2 although we can overlook that because it's Tyson. I'd say he was a bit on the chinny side certainly not a glass chin but I think Lewis would take him out with the power he has.
I think what would happen is Lennox's fantastic ability to decide when to flip the switch and get in someone's face, sell-out his defense at the right time to do offensive as defense, that's going to stop any success Tubbs might start to have. When Lennox makes that decision, it's like helium to kudzu, here, I suspect. But I don't know Tony Tubbs. I am not old. Maybe I'm picturing the wrong thing.
Precisely how I see it,Fergy. A focused 'TNT' weighing around 227 lbs takes Lennox the distance but would drop a clear decision winning a few rounds along the way.
A motivated Tubbs takes out the post fight press buffet single-handedly and then carves up a tic-tac-toe of fat lines on a serving tray.
His skill and handspeed might give Lewis a challenge. A lot of it would depend on how Tony’s chin holds up
Outside of the Tyson Ko, those other ones were a little later in his career when his physical gifts were not there anymore and drugs were a huge issue. Tubbs was one hell of an amateur fighter and a hell of a talent. Like a lot of other guys from that era, he had some demons that wrecked his career. That and Mike Tyson. Regarding Tubbs vs Lewis. Tubbs had great handspeed in his prime but Lewis had the kyotonite for the speed aka his elite jab. Lewis times him with a right hand late after busting Tubbs with his jab.
If he fought the Lennox Lewis still finding his way like the version that faced Mike Weaver while still learning and on the rise, yes, the best best and motivated Tubbs would give him some trouble just as he did Riddick Bowe at kind of the same stage of his career. I think he’d do he same if he faced Mike Tyson at that kind of point, just as James Tillis did. But Tony Tubbs against the best version of Lennox gets blown out in 2-3 rounds. Too much size, power and strength to keep him off. For Tubbs, it’s like the Tyson fight. For Lewis, it’s like the Ruddock fight. He wouldn’t be trying to size up Tony and figure him out … the mature version whom Manny trained would be launching missiles and something gets through — after that, it’s over soon.
