Anyone else got a feeling that Belly's comeback may look a bit like Joe Louis'? May beat few bums and contenders but will lose to the top guys and get brutally knocked out by some hard hitting young gun.
I could imagine something like this. Fury I think takes his time before rushing into big fights. He postponed the Wladimir rematch, I believe on a couple occasions before retiring When Fury retired first time, he returned and fought Seferi and Pianetta before having another title shot (draw with Wilder) Then before another title shot fought Schwarz and Wallin before the Wilder rematch. He then postponed the Wilder defence. Fury defended against Whyte, I think retired and then upon returning faced Chisora and Ngannou. I for some reason thought the Chisora fight was a tune up for Usyk, but then the Ngannou fight happened after. After that there was a couple of postponents before facing Usyk. I'm not saying any postponement might not have been for very valid reason. I'm sure they were, but I expect it may have helped him get in the right physical and mental state. Looking at the above I think Fury will likely have a couple of tune ups first before going in to a bigger fight. Probably a sensible thing to do I seem to think that Fury wasn't interested in facing the then undefeated Makhmudov a while back and picked Chisora instead. I would guess a couple of tune ups outside the top 15 ratings (not outside top of sanctioning body ratings), then possibly a bigger fight
Boring if that’s the case Other than nice paydays for the opponents there’s not really much for the fans to like about that lineup
Fury is a lot of things, but he's not an idiot. He won't jump in with someone he doesn't think he can beat...or someone he gains little from beating. He wants Usyk again....but he has to decide who his "comeback" fight is against this summer....which he will decide once his current pre-camp is over and he knows where he stands (or doesn't)
Fury should fight Mahkmudov, Wardley then chase his last chance at redemption vs Usyk since all he's interested in is money.
Imagine not beating a ranked top 10 fighter since 2022 and then thinking you can just waltz back into a title fight against the guy who punched you from pillar to post like an episode of Itchy & Scratchy. I can see Fury losing in a tune-up fight like Tyson did against Danny Williams, he will be 38 next year and a decade of cocaine and alcohol binges + chronic inactivity will all come back to bite him. He should stay retired if Joshua retires.
He has 2 fight left max. One tune up fight and possibly, finally AJ, depending on his personal circumstances.
Louis' comeback opponents were very good, including ATG Jimmy Bivins, and Lee Savold who was recognized by Britain as champion. Fury's competition will not approach it.
Louis fought 10 times in a year. I would bet all our souls 1000x over on Fury not fighting 5 times in a year again. It'd be a surprise if he fought 5 more times total but I guess a fight here and there into his late 40s can happen.
