Serious question...no venom in it as all...why is this a bad thing? We want him to leave cruiser because Zurdo is NEVER going to fight him, and no ABC belt will be available for some time due to reasons we have discussed ad nauseam. Why not let him pick up this bauble and run it into the ground?

-Better than staying at cruiser and fighting more 40 years olds
-Better than bridger
-Better than getting in line to fight Usyk

I'm a bit sad about it as I've had my eye on hin for a long time, but he was in a situation he normally inflicts on others, and that is getting backed into a corner. He doesn't attract the returns that other belt holders would need to risk 12 months out or retirement after a brutal knockout.

 

How has he sold his soul?

Zurdo - coward, won’t fight him.
CBS - talks up fighting him but ran for the hills when given the opportunity.
Benavidez - unknown at CW, rightly taken the easier path.
Mikaelian - has never mentioned Opetaia, could barely beat Badou Jack.

The rest aren’t even a consideration.

What’s Opetaia supposed to do? The elite CW’s on the planet form a list of precisely one. So now he has to make sure he gets paid.

 

I love Usyk but Usyk was in a position to be a mandatory challenger at heavyweight due to him having all four cruiser belts.

Opetaia does not even have that. He has to wait in line behind frigin Wilder as well as Kabayel, Wardley and probably Ituama before he can get a shot at Usyk or whoever the champ is.

Dude is in a lose lose situation. Can't unify at cruiser as no one has the guts to fight him and he is a minimum of 2-3 years away from a shot at the heavyweight championship.

What is he supposed to do? I hate White but its not like Opetaia is going to get a title shot anytime soon. So he is rightfully trying to make money to secure his future.

 

He’ll be fighting outside the league and Dana will be promoting him. He’s not fighting for a Zuffa belt in the Apex lol.

 

He’s not fighting in the Zuffa league. That’s for small time fighters. They will promote him outside of that. It’s in conjunction with Tasman Fighters and Goldstar promotions.

Yes i totally get your concerns. I want Zuffa and White out of boxing too and i hope their venture fails.

 

Why? Dana/Zuffa made what MMA is today, I’m sure Dana will do good in boxing.
