I was at a friends funeral today at East London Cemetery and as luck would have it we were parked right by Terry's grave. It's a beautiful headstone. Any memories, or stories of his boxing days ?
I heard he was a lovely bloke. The early success, the gold medal, probably as much of a curse and a blessing in the pros, he was quite a celebrity in those days. enjoyed the drink and the night spots and threw a lot of money away on slow horses. All the youthful mistakes. Was bankrupt and washed up at 25. I have some newspaper clippings saced somewhere in my hard drive, him telling his story around the time he retired. I will try to dig some out.
I'd be really keen to have a read of them.. At the wake I spoke to a friend who liked boxing, and the convo got round to east enders and boxing.. They really love their fighters down there
