Wardley wants Chisora for first defence

Smart business move, but crap fight.

These days, Chisora is slow, predictable, incredibly open, and has a 3 round gas tank. Wardley is improving each fight, has some decent skills, hits hard, and is quick.

I think Wardley gets him out of there early. 3-4 rounds max.

 

I really like this fight for Wardley. Plodder Chisora is game, well known and his stock and popularity is at a career high after his last run of wins. On paper it’s a lively little slugfest until Wardley levels him probably before the halfway mark. Low risk, high reward fight for Fab

I think that's a great move for Wardley.
Chisora will be game and it should be an exciting fight.
Will also give Wardley a life changing payday which he fully deserves.

Wardley has grown on me massively over past few years.
By far from the best boxer but makes up for it with heart. And comes across as a proper nice guy

 

Timing-wise it’s perfect for both: hard not to see Wardley stopping him, but if Derek gets in his head pre-fight and unsettles him during fight week, Fabio might come flying at him from the bell – and if Chisora’s still there after six without taking a hiding, it gets interesting. Plenty ahead of Derek who deserve the shot, but no way Warren is taking huge risks at this stage when he’s so close to sewing the whole division up.

It wouldn't shock me, though, if Chisora somehow won this fight.

 

I just can't see a Chisora win, mate. Not at this stage of his career.

Chisora is painfully slow and open these days, and his footwork is all over the place. Wardley is no Ali, but skill wise, he has come on leaps and bounds, since even the first Clarke fight, which wasn't that long ago. He also has quick hands.

I think Wardley will be able to tee off on Chisora at will. Considering Joyce is probably the hardest hitter Chisora has faced since Price, I think this will be a painful night for Del Boy. Even if Chisora can get into the second half of the fight, his gas tank just isn't good enough these days to take advantage. Not against a hard hitting, quick handed younger fighter, who can also dig deep if the **** hits the fan.

Still, it's not a fight I'm entirely against. Wardley has done brilliantly considering where he came from, so he deserves the payday. Also, he hasn't faced a lot of decent competition and has increased his level ridiculously from the Clarke fights onwards, so maybe putting the brakes on and taking an easier touch in Chisora will do him good. It gives him more experience, and he can work on a few more things in the gym and on fight night.

 

Yeah, agree – I just wouldn’t be shocked by an upset, that’s all. Derek’s only real shot is to unsettle him in fight week and drag him into a messy fight early; the danger for Fabio is he reads it like everyone else does, that he just has to turn up, step to Derek, drop the right hand and it ends with the ref or the corner pulling Chisora out.

For some reason I’m still not fully convinced by Wardley. He showed warrior code vs Joey12, and the power is obvious vs Huni and Clarke, but before that he went life and death with Frazer (who’s just lost to TKV), he lost every round to Huni, and Parker had the fight in the bag until he decided to mix it up and got caught.

So yeah, Fabio’s a huge favourite, and if Derek pulls it off it’s a Mon Mome winning the Grand National type of upset.

 

Agree with this but I assume Warren promised Chisora another cashout and given Del is tight with the Saudis there's probably some purse related shenanigans here too.

All that being said, Wardley deserves a winnable fight and Chisora usually sells well enough. I suspect this ends like Whyte-Chisora 2 with Del on his back but who knows.

Final thought - I watched some of Chisora's podcast with Jermaine Jenas (odd combination!) and he's as punch drunk slurring as I've ever seen anyone still fighting. It's not good.

 

You say that but I don't believe Del has actually ever fought on a Saudi show despite hawking his services out at every card

 

A fight that makes perfect sense for both, money.

Wardley to win a slugfest, Chisora doesn't have the pop to stop him or outbox him. Then surely retirement for Chisora.

Will showcase FW to the Saudi's and if as expected it's a watchable encounter only will puh FW career on, to me he's a very likeable fighter and with a crowd friendly style.

 

Going against the grain here but Chisora is more than a live dog in this fight. Wardley is massively over rated and this is surely the best chance chisora has to become world champion.

 

There will never be an easier chance than the vacant belt defended by Charles Martin.

I think Wardley comes out and does exactly what he done to Frazer Clarke in fight 2.

The old plodder is fodder.

 

Too true Charles Martin will forever be the weakest world champion in history, he makes Rocky Fielding look like Duran.
