Mike Tyson had a better career than Larry Holmes.

Why didn't he rematch Sanders?

 

Agreed to a extent Witherspoon did more work at heavyweight and it was a more exciting fight.

However at the same time Wlad won a lot more convincingly against Haye like 10-2 in rounds while Holmes was probably 7-5 or so give or take.

Haye cannot be considered as being a much greater win for Wlad.

And Wlad didn't face much better opponents either.

 

He did but Haye didn't really attempt to win the fight if we're being honest.

Haye talked alot of trash prior to the fight and was so eager to fight Wladimir. But when push come to shove he bottled it and then blamed his performance on his little toe.

Haye's only objective in the Wladimir fight was to go the distance and not actually attempt to win the fight.

Unlike Witherspoon who took it to Holmes and pushed him to the brink.

 

It was the weakest HW era of all time.

 

I agree Witherspoon was probably more gain than Haye in both fights but I also think Wlad looked sharper than Holmes.

 

So what if he won an eliminator?

That just highlights how bad the division was at the time.

I think the Witherspoon fight was the start of Holmes's decline to be honest.

Not that I'm saying Holmes was bad in the Witherspoon he wasn't.

But I do think there was evidence he was starting to slip somewhat and then it was a steady decline from that point on.

 

So they weren't any.

Yeah I think Holmes was starting to slip a little. His peak was probably 1978-1982.

 

I think Holmes's last peak performance was against Gerry Cooney.

Everything after Tim Witherspoon was a bit mehh to be quite honest from the opponents he was fighting to the overall performances where he didn't look as sharp.

But atleast he was still an active champion something we can't say about the Heavyweights nowadays.
