Deontay Wilder vs Chris Byrd

I voted Wilder. However, those that are saying Byrd.......have got it right. differences in skill.....VAST.
think during the fight .....Wilder's corner would eventually stop giving advice and hand Wilder a hammer and say......"hit him with this, nothing else is working."

 

People have a lot to say about the quality of Wilders WBC reign but it was a fairly dominant reign with close fights against Ortiz and Fury.

3 rounds to Holyfield
4 rounds to Oquendo
6 rounds to Golota
5 rounds to McCline
4 rounds to Williamson

And hes going to dominate Wilder and is such an amazing point fighter? Byrd faced better opponents on average then Wilders WBC reign. But it wasn't a strong reign and he was at his limit dealing with these guys. Holyfield and Golota weren't shot but they were not worth the value of their name anymore thats for sure. Oquendo and McCline were the best opponents he defended against.

 

I think some of you guys are forgetting that Duhaupas and Szplika outboxed Wilder for 8 rounds or so before getting caught. I honestly don't think Byrd works up a sweat.

 

I saw Chris byrd’s last fight live. he came in at either 168 or 175.

Official scorecards had Wilder up 9-1 on Duhaupas and 6-2 on Szpilka. If Wilder doesn't get the KO he is winning both those fights.

The Ortiz rematch was Wilders only KO where he needed the KO to win the fight.

 

Byrd is all wrong for Deonkey, he wins a wide decision. Deonkey probably puts his shoulder out trying to catch Byrd.

Byrd himself said that Wilder would be a "worse style matchup for me than Mike Tyson".

 

I don't understand why Wilder rejects Usyk and opts to fight Chisora instead.

Bryd could be fairly static. He liked the fact he was a bit undersized VS these giants. He could see the punches, slip parry and land his own.
But I think I favor Wilder's rangy unpredictability here, Its easy to parry an upright, heavy handed guy like Vitali but someone like Wilder who was often off balance of not in range but would swing multiple times it becomes harder to judge.

 

Byrd was a natural mw. His whole game at hw was out pointing guys as he was naturally wayyyy smaller.

wilder is a heavyweight who was extremely athletic and rangey, goes for the ko so even if he is losing on points, he most often found his target

 

By his followers sure, but I think he at one point was tough, had heart and had a very good knack of eventually finding the target
People that say he can't box are wrong imo
He is and always be crude to watch and as much as I wasn't a fan of him as a person, I did get quite excited when he was due to fight

I guess he entertained me where as Bryd never did

That knack of eventually finding the target would work against Bryd

 

He has almost the exact same height and reach as Joe Louis. Hes small for a 21st century HW but hes a huge MW and large LHW.

Byrds a point fighter all the more reason to hold losing so many rounds against him. Thats how he wins fights and he struggled to do so.

In all the fights he won Wilder was only losing on points once at the time of the KO.
