Any thoughts on this PR battler? A pretty overlooked fighter but also very entertaining warhorse. He's been in some very tough wars although wasn't a world class fighter by any means. His biggest fight was his losing effort against Pernell Whitaker who easily outpointed him. Looking back that fight with Cardona might have been the last time we saw a prime Pernell Whitaker in the ring.
He was an exciting fighter back in the day. To add to the fights already mentioned his fight with Duran s cousin Santiago Samaniego is also a pretty good fights as are his fights with John Meekins and Tony Ayala. Also like his fight with Sweet Pea but that's cause I'm a big Pea fan and that was just another one of Pernell s masterclass és probably his last one at near his best. Really fun fighter to watch Cardona was.
Would have been great to have seen Santos Cardona against Harold Brazier as well. Both fought similar guys (Whitaker, Pompey, Meekins, Bramble) and I think their styles would have meshed well to make for another good fight.
Just rewatched that one. Tremendous toe to toe 12 round fight that was. Personally I thought Cardona did enough to win it but still a close competitive war. This content is protected
