That’s fair enough, but they probably do need to be judged differently to a normal start-up. They’re a massive global combat sports/entertainment empire and they’ve got the financial backing of the Saudi sportswashing bottomless pit of cash.
From a UK perspective how does Paramount work for this, is this another subscription? I’ve heard of it and browsed on my sky box too, I would quite like to see this first event and keep an eye on the progress generally, probably more so from an event point of view.
Yes and it will not be £1.99 per month as they have also acquired the next Champions League Football rights from TNT Sports.
This state of Flux that boxing is going through right now is really starting to get on my nerves. The last few years have been bonkers, Sky Sports and TNT Sports losing boxing, DAZN taking over with Netflix and Amazon Prime dipping their beak in, we've got random PPV channels like Triller and Pro Box TV, Boxxer on BBC, Paramount and Youtube now entering the equation. We've got the Saudi's and Dana looking to take over, idiot influencers fighting constantly. Is it ever going to settle down? I just want some good domestic boxing and the odd reasonably priced PPV if it's required. I just wish we could go back to all boxing on Sky Sports and BT. It's annoying because sports wise I like Premier League football, Boxing and F1. I could get all of that on two subscriptions. Chuck a Netflix subscription in and that's all my favourite sports and entertainment in three subscriptions. Because I've got a family with different tastes I now have at home. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Disney, Now TV Sports, DAZN and Discovery. I'm going to throw my TV out the window and take up poetry, I've had enough.
its just to many apps and channels to keep up with as an average bloke struggling to get by as is, maybe ok for those with enough income or wealth but for an average bloke like me it hits me hard in the pocket and miss out on the sport id be watching other wise, i simply cant afford it and this last month after xmas was hellish for me as i couldnt afford my normal shopping and i dont splurge as it is
It looked good on paper, but it was so boring (and a bad show). If this is an indication of what Zuffa Boxing wants to accomplish, then the other promoters have nothing to fear.
I wasn't blown away by their production but the commentators and experts were world class. Far better than DAZN's.
I’m only part way through it, crikey it was 7 hours long! I’m up to the start of the ‘main card’, although unlike DAZN there’s no discernible difference that makes it the main card. They just took an ad break and came back with the same commentators and everything. Thoughts so far are that it’s very cold and sterile - like the studio boxing during Covid. No atmosphere, the venue is horrible and it looks really weird that all the undercard fighters are wearing the same generic template shorts just in different colours. Quality announce team, but too much sucking off Dana both in the comms and in all the promo vids around the ad breaks. Doesn’t feel like the start of some great boxing ‘revolution’ so far, more like a contender/prospect show I’d have expected a year or two down the line after going big with more Alvarez v Crawford-type mega fights.
