Deontay Wilder vs Dereck Chisora: who will win?

Wilder is shot to bits. A decade ago, it would have been a competitive fight.

Have to back Chisora now, Wilder will struggle to deal with Chisora's pressure.

I think this will be Wilder's last fight.

 

Chisora takes the win, both are washed up but Wilder is done, Chisora by TKO...

As seems to be the majority opinion, Wilder is too shot, Chisora stops him

I’ll say this though, Wilder-Chisora is a far better fight by orders of magnitude than Usyk-Wilder. If I’m around and the undercard is decent I might even go watch it live

The same Wilder who Tyrrell Herndon was practically begging to take him out before the 8th round or so

 

I'm favouring Chisora. Wilder's always relied more on his physical abilities rather than technical skills, so while Chisora is older and has far more miles on the clock, he probably is closer to his prime self than Wilder. Chisora has more ring smarts and experience fighters at the top level and at this point that might be enough to get him the win.

But Wilder has a punchers chance and at this advanced age you never know when the wheels will completely come off and Chisora has taken far more punishment, so you never know. That's what makes this fight interesting, anything could happen.

 

Wilder could barely stop Tyrrell Herndon, and looked absolutely abysmal. Chisora will batter him.

 

I have to lean slightly to Chisora who is more active and on a better run

Wilder could use his height and jab and try and limit Chisora's mauling and try and plant the right hand on him. Chisora has not been bombed out in a while and took some heavy blows off of Joyce to win. I don't think Wilder throws enough punches to really get to Chisora but Chisora does fade in the second half of fights and if Wilder survives late into the fight he has a chance.

Parker and Zhang are also more skilled and closer to their peak than Chisora is and I don't know if Wilder will be as cautious vs Derek as he was the other 2. Still I think Chisora mauls and wins enough rounds in the middle of the fight before fading and hanging on to the win with some scary moments.

 

Crazy that Wilder has taken this fight when Usyk was open to giving him a shot at the unified (really, the undisputed) heavyweight title

Even in Wilder's prime, I'd have given Chisora the edge - I don't think there was an awful lot between them, and styles would've made Chisora the more likely to win.

Now...
Chisoras probably the more declined physically - but in ways that don't really take away as much from him.

Wilder's performance level is the more declined - partly because he relied on speed, which has gone a bit, and partly because he relied on others perception of him...
Wilder needed opponents to think he was durable (when he wasn't really all that durable) and he needed opponents to believe he'd find a way to find the big punch, getting them cautious and easier to hit - all of this has been lessened by seeing these exposed as mirages (at least partially) the moment he stepped up to fight better guys (even including Ortiz, who I've always considered horribly overrated, but would've stopped him without intervention).


Now I think Chisora is more likely to win than he would've been if they'd fought several years ago... Wilder has a chance, but I'd give Chisora at least a 60/40 here.

 

Stylewise Chisora is hard opponent for Wilder, even prime vs prime. He's a pressure fighter, and Wilder didn't like to fight under pressure, he needs space to throw his right hand.

Nowdays, as shopworn as Chisora is, he has definitely more left in tank than Deontey who has slowed down considerably and whose timing is off.

 

That said, if Wilder wins this fight, his fight vs Usyk would be at least acceptable.

 

No it wouldn't. It's still a horrendous mismatch. He can go fight his mandatories and defend his titles instead.

My prediction is Wilder winning it by TKO. He's being underrated a bit here.
