Anyone vouch for Rahman being a better than good fighter?

He made it to be world champion despite limitations, his physicality and stamina alongside a solid jab and got right hand saw him overachieve. He has good wins and bad losses. His great win over Lennox is arguably a lucky punch but many fighters in history have equally lucky wins.

Other brief world champions in history get praised with the same sort of ups and downs and again somewhat lucky wins. But if you boxed in the last 20 years you won't get that type of credit.

Ruiz had a better quicker jab and more stamina. Maskaev timed big punches against his shakey defense.

He was a NABF/USBA double winner and lineal champion. He was 50-9.

The reason you can blame him for losing to John Ruiz and Maskaev is because you'd expect him to win.

Almost every single fighter we talk about on this site is better then good.

I will take Rahman's body of work if it is all the same.

You can take him or leave him at the end of the day, but at the end of teh day he prevailed.

He became the immortal successor to John L Sullivan, an he did it by beating a Heavyweight Champion who many regard as one of the greatest ever, in very uncontroversial circumstances.

Then for a victory lap, he won the WBC belt again.

He can go to bed at night content with his resume.

At best you could plonk him somewhere in the area between good and very good, substantially closer to the side of "good" if you do. He was in the right place at the right time vs Lewis which is obviously his big rating stick. The rest of his career is a bit of a mixed bag.

The Maskaev losses are inexplicable. I guess some guys just have your number because he was definitely better than Oleg.

I think he's deceptive because there just haven't been many fighters who were that physically strong. I don't think Tua liked dealing with a jab that heavy.

Being competent, strong and disciplined takes you very far in the HW division.
