It's always hilarious seeing this idea that Joshua had to be protected from Ortiz - it only comes from Wilder shills, and it's obvious nonsense, but they just can't stop...

You know, they have to believe lots of crazy things to get there, but they're experts at that.

Heck, why not spell it out.

So Joshua had to be protected from Ortiz, but not from Wlad, who was miles better.

Joshua had to be protected from Ortiz, but not from Povetkin, who was much better.

Joshua had to be protected from Ortiz, but not from Wilder (who beat Ortiz) who admitted to ducking him.

Joshua had to be protected from Ortiz, but not from Whyte, who Wilder (who beat Ortiz) was also ducking for being too dangerous.

Joshua had to be protected from Ortiz, but not from Parker, who beat Wilder (who beat Ortiz) by a complete and embarrassing shut-out.

    Hmm..

    Somewhere this doesn't make sense.

Seems much more reasonable to just see that Ortiz wasn't really that relevant and/or priced himself out - or just refused, as he did when a paycheck multiple times the one he got for Wilder-2 was available and he turned it down.

When the real heavyweight champion with several successful unifications and a decent champions resume came calling, King Kong chose to run away play with the protected can crushing champ instead...

Chisora and Parker have shown a willingness to take on anyone. I find it hard to believe Ortiz couldnt have fought them given their records.

I guarantee you, if they thought they could beat Ortiz they would have done the match. Mandatory means f all when you have the promotional and marketing power of AJ.

Great, thats Ruiz’s own accomplishment, doesnt change the fact that he was in a disadvantage.

    Thats still short notice.

This site really is something, nowhere else Ive seen a fighter get criticized for not taking a match on short notice.

AJ fought and beat better fighters than Ortiz, so this point is irrelevant. There was a small window to actually make the fight and Ortiz messed it up by popping dirty.

He did something Ortiz never did - risked it all.

Well, if you're that big bad boogeyman claiming to be ducked by everybody, you should take the opportunities when they present themselves. Otherwise, you're just all talk. Which Ortiz was.

Look, if you don’t know boxing enough to comprehend what you are looking at when you watch a match and need to look at resumes and names to make a judgement, then thats fine. Keep losing your money. But dont come in here and mock the people that actually watch the matches and make judgements based on that.

I agree, Ortiz should have taken a short notice match just so a random guy on a boxing forum can appreciate him.

Nah, he should do it to earn the biggest career payday and fight the number 1 heavyweight in the world that he claimed was ducking him.

And get in there with increased chances of losing than normal, since thats clearly what you wish happened instead.

Well, he blew the chance to fight in normal circumstances, so that was the only way he could get the fight. And, as Andy Ruiz showed, he could actually win, if he believed he could do so.

Yeah, you shouldn't, cause even Ortiz's manager admitted the decision not to take that fight was a big mistake :p
