Nipper Pat Daly retired at 17, with 119 pro bouts behind him.

 

Talk about retiring early — Marvin was an up-before-dawn guy. He probably woke up one day and retired before sunrise and before his morning coffee, so that would be an early retirement for sure.

Even going 4 rounds with Mike Weaver could've taken a handful of years of Ali's life. He shouldn't have fought Berbick in the first place

 

Damn near every fighter I have met, including myself, is dinged up a bit. It's the price of admission.

And I protest the term "unnecessary punches". All punches are necessary if you want glory.

I had high hopes for him

 

Don’t know if Andre Ward has been mentioned. He was on top of the world and undefeated when he hung em up. Don’t believe he was very old either . Maybe 32-33 ?

 

Prince Hamed hung em up at the very young age of 27 I believe. It was a good decision seeing as he was very reliant on his physical attributes such as his reflexes and speed, much like Roy Jones. He would not have aged well
