Why are people talking like Shakur is better than Loma?

I know what he could have done differently. Not fight Lopez with 1 arm. Use his boxing skills to box Salido's ears off instead of trading with him, oh, and don't fight 2 divisions above what you should when you know guys are rehydrating way above the division weight. Loma was his own worst enemy. Damn good fighter, terrible career decisions.

 

You damn idiot shakur lives here in houston and ive seen him in person atleast 3 times hes a little guy who was around 150 at most when I saw him last. Him jumping up to 140 for his first fight taking on teo is impressive you're just trying to downplay it for obvious reasons any other fighter would get props for doing it.

I'm a huge Loma fan. I think he is probably the best ever at his weight class. However, though I am not a SS fan, he is very talented. Because of his elusiveness and his size, he would have been a tough fight for Loma. I don't dislike Shakur. I just think he has too often coasted in fights because his talent level was so much higher than his opponents. My knock is he should have taken more risks. After all, this is an entertainment business. I think he has gotten the message.

But, let's be clear, Loma is a once-in-a-decade fighter. Every time he stepped into the ring, there was electricity. No one touched him at his natural weight. Unfortunately, he had to move up in weight to get the bigger fights and to challenge himself.

I miss him from the fight game but I am glad he is out because he can retire with plenty of money and his health. He is a legend.

 

And they were right. Loma was too small. You even admit that when you've said many times, Loma is fighting 2 divisions above his natural weight. If you and I know guys rehydrate 1-2 divisions higher come fight night, I'm damn sure Loma knew. So, who's fault is that? Loma made that decision. I'm sure he made the decision to start his pro career late. Loma is probably the most frustrating guy. He could have been that special guy, taking up were Manny left off. Filling that void that was left. He was a special talent, he just made absolutely terrible choices. Imagine if he stayed at 122 going no higher than 126. His career would have been mind blowing.

I'm so glad lomachenko didn't stay down there. He gave us lots of memorable fights. We had enough fighters only taking fights at an advantage or at least no disadvantage. Smart career choices that leave us with how many interesting matchups right now?

People are not hardcore enough to see what lomachenko did or how usyk's path is different from british/american fighters. And the ones that do, often don't want to see it.

Lomachenko should be applauded for giving us interesting matchups. I don't want to see role Models and favorites i can defend without anyone being able to speak against them. I don't need icons of the sport as much as great fights.

It probably wasn't a great career choice of muhammad Ali to jump back after his break to fight the strongest out there and then lose to Frazier. Imagine he hadn't done it... He was a popular cash cow back then. No fighter today would do that.

From what i gathered, I am pretty sure in the past there were many more boxing fans actually caring for the matchmaking and what the fights mean and not caring about wether it made sense from the fighter's perspective. Now everyone talks about 'undisputed' and 'unbeaten' etc all the time. Twitter isn't even needed to misguide these fighters...

They are all little. Loma was the smallest for sure, no doubt about that. And he was afraid of Teo's power and size. But Teo hasn't carried the same power to 140 that he had at 135. Imagine Teo at 147? He would be too small and get bullied. He is already having trouble carrying his power to 140. It's not like Teo was a massive Welterweight who was thumping Loma the Featherweight. He was a couple of divisions bigger and that's about it.

 

Lomachenko had problems with Salido. If that was Manny Pacquiao in there and Salido came charging in at his balls then Pacquiao would have stopped him in 1 or 2 rounds.

Stop.

 

Two entirely different boxers with different skill sets.

Head to head in the Olympics.. Loma would win.

Loma was surreal in his greatness.

You know how great his prime was when Mikey Garcia ducked him like the plague to unify the 135lb division and instead sacrificed himself like a lamb to slaughter for Errol Spence... because it was a better look.

Loma went into the Lopez fight with a torn shoulder that tore even further in rd. 2 requiring surgery that following Monday. Teo not giving the rematch to find Kambosos was nuts.

The robbery against Haney was pitiful and disgraceful. It also robbed us of a Loma v. Shakur fight which would have 100% happened next.
Instead Haney dropped all the belts went to 140 and got pounded out by Ryan Garcia. What a damn waste.

 

He is better. Chenko didn’t have that dog in him.
