Should he just jump straight to 147 and fight Haney for the welterweight belt since no one can even come close to beating Shakur at 140?
Na, I don't think Davis does. Nobody beats him at 140; he's a cut above everyone at 140. I'm in a precarious position where I dislike Shakur immensely, his horrible, boring style, his arrogant persona, his social media presence; I don't know any redeeming quality he has. However, I've just looked at the rankings between lightweight and welterweight; there's really no one who can beat him. I wouldn't pick anyone against him now. Does that mean he's close to Inoue, Usyk, or Bivol? No, I still wouldn't say so. He's probably closer to them, but there's still an awfully long way to go. I might be letting personal bias get in the way here, and it might get to a point where it's undeniable, but for me, he still needs to completely clean out a division like Usyk at CW or Inoue at 122. Or he needs to have an undeniable P4P fighter on his resume, as Bivol does with Beterbiev. In Shakur's defense, I'm not sure who would even fit this bill, and he would clear out all of these divisions, too. A phenomenal talent, but Christ, what a boring fighter, such a shame we have another once in a generation talent who has no marketability, is not likeable, and has no ability to crossover and interest casual fans. Luckily, though, one of the few fighters in the sport who is much more unlikeable is Connor Eggs B-Sample Bennedict, who is P4P arguably the biggest helmet the sport has produced in my lifetime, so I would love to see Shakur do to Benn what he did to Teo, which he 100% would.
Its an unpleasant surprise to the boxing world. This kid is good as advertised.Boring, yes.But that was teo just couldn’t do anything.Steve was boxing him easily all rounds.I hate the outcome but Steve style is dreadful but effective.
For now but i see them fighting when the right money is offered.Start in house beefing etc.Sell the fight.Done!
I hope you're right but I think neither of them want the smoke and it's all about protecting their 0's.
He and Keyshawn aren't going to fight each other and 147 is probably the worst it's ever been in the history of the sport with the likes or freaking Rolly, Crocker, Barrios, and Haney ruling the roost. I'm not giving anyone a slither of credit for winning a title at that weight while the division is that historically bad. I don't care if they've come up from light-flyweight and are female they're not getting any credit from me. My 2 year old nephew could become undisputed at 147 right now if given the opportunity to do so. That's how awful it is currently Super Boots would get arrested for legal homicide vs all those guys and vs Keyshawn and even Shakur if they moved up. Crawford would too. But none of them would dare do so if he was at 147 still Dalton Smith is the deserved #2 at 140 right now
man, wtf can Shakur do to get fans? He was on the front foot as the aggressor the entire fight, and Teo couldn’t lay a glove on him. Yeah, he’s a points fighter, but he didn’t run or spoil. He very cleanly, clinically, delivered a PhD thesis on the sweet science tonight. Captured in full 4k, perfect quality, for history.
